2024 NFL Draft Stock – Combine

2024 NFL Draft Stock Up

Xavier Worthy, WR, Texas

While I had Worthy in the top 25 of my 2024 NFL Draft Big Board for a long time, he was being slept on by many in the national media. Multiple team sources said they had Worthy as a first-rounder, but others in the media were not putting him in the first round of mock drafts. Worthy showed why teams hold him in high regard at the 2024 NFL Scouting Combine by putting up a 4.21-second time in the 40-yard dash, the fastest ever recorded. His electric combine time will definitely help him to move up draft boards and verify the elite speed that he put on tape at Texas over the past three seasons.

J.J. McCarthy, QB, Michigan

The top-three quarterback prospects didn’t throw in the field drills of the 2024 NFL Scouting Combine, but McCarthy did, and he had an impressive day. McCarthy threw some bullets, showing a strong arm with velocity. He lofted in some nice touch passes downfield as well. Along with the field workout, McCarthy was said to have interviewed well with teams. With other quarterbacks choosing not to participate, McCarthy took advantage of the spotlight to have a combine that will help him come the 2024 NFL Draft.

Payton Wilson, LB, N.C. State

Wilson had a superb 2024 NFL Scouting Combine, led by his blistering 4.43 time in the 40-yard dash. With that speed and his athleticism, Wilson showed that he has starter-level talent for the NFL. The 6-foot-3, 233-pounder possesses pro size but could stand to get stronger. After his solid combine, Wilson could easily be a second-round pick in the 2024 NFL Draft.

Braden Fiske, DT, Florida State

Fiske put up one of the best 40-yard dash times among the defensive linemen, running it in a tremendous 4.78 seconds. Despite being 6-foot-3, 292 pounds, Fiske ran very well. He is a fast and dangerous interior disruptor who needs to get stronger to become a three-down starter as a pro. However, his combine workout could help him to end up as a second-round pick this coming April in the 2024 NFL Draft.

Jared Verse, DE, Florida State

Verse had an excellent workout at the 2024 NFL Scouting Combine. In the field drills, he moved well and showed athleticism and quickness to go along with a strong frame. The 6-foot-3, 254-pounder also ran a fast 40 time for a defense lineman at 4.58 seconds. Verse is viewed as more of a power rusher than a speed rusher, but his performance at the combine showed he has some quickness to go with his strength.

Trey Benson, RB, Florida State

The 2024 NFL Draft does not have a first-round prospect at running back, such as a Bijan Robinson or a Jahmyr Gibbs. However, the draft does feature a lot of good depth in terms of running back prospects for Day 2. Benson firmly put himself in the second-day discussion at the 2024 NFL Scouting Combine after blazing an electric 40-yard dash time of 4.39 seconds. In college, Benson looked fast and fluid while also showing strength as a runner. His combine performance will help him to rise.

Max Melton, CB, Rutgers

Melton’s brother Bo was a workout warrior at the combine back in 2022, and Max Melton kept the family tradition alive at the 2024 NFL Scouting Combine. In the 40-yard dash, Melton ran a very fast 4.39 seconds. He also recorded some excellent numbers in the vertical jump and broad jump. Melton showed that he is an explosive athlete to go along with good tape from his time in college. The combine could help Melton to be a second-round pick next month in the 2024 NFL Draft.

2024 NFL Draft Stock Down

Keon Coleman, WR, Florida State

Team sources were not expecting a fast 40-yard dash out of Coleman, but they also were not expecting his performance to be as slow as it was. Coleman’s time of 4.61 seconds was alarmingly slow for a wide receiver and will help to validate concerns that Coleman will struggle to separate from NFL defensive backs. I have Coleman going very late in the first round of my latest 2024 mock draft, but he could potentially slip to Day 2 of the 2024 NFL Draft.
