2013 Fantasy Football Rankings: Wide Receivers

These 2013 Fantasy Football Wide Receivers Rankings will be updated often throughout the spring and summer, so make sure you check back from time to time. 2013 Fantasy Football Rankings - Wide Receivers (Sept. 4):
Top 10 | 11-20 | 21-40 | 41-60 | 61-95 |

  1. Calvin Johnson, WR, Lions. Bye: 9.
Calvin Johnson broke Jerry Rice’s all-time record for yardage in a single season, but he frustrated his fantasy owners by scoring just five touchdowns. This was a fluke, however, as there were so many instances where Megatron was tackled at the 1-yard line. I expect him to rebound with double-digit scores in 2013.

Projected 2013 Fantasy Stats: 101 catches. 1,700 yards. 11 total TDs.
    Projected 2013 Fantasy Points: 236.
Projected 2013 PPR Fantasy Points: 337.

  2. Dez Bryant, WR, Cowboys. Bye: 11.
AUG. 26 UPDATE: Dez Bryant looks like he’s ready to have a monstrous season. He saw eight targets come his way versus Cincinnati, catching six of them for 54 yards and a touchdown. He also drew a pass interference. He should be the second receiver drafted after Calvin Johnson.

AUG. 18 UPDATE: As mentioned, Dez Bryant fumbled the ball away in the second quarter at Arizona. This ruined what was a flawless performance. He saw four targets come his way, and he caught all of them for 74 yards. He made a beautiful back-shoulder catch on Patrick Peterson on one occasion. Bryant is going to be a beast this year.

AUG. 10 UPDATE: Dez Bryant saw a team-high three targets from Tony Romo at Oakland. He caught all of them, logging 55 yards in the process. Not bad for one quarter of action. Bryant looks like he’s in terrific shape, so he’s poised for a huge 2013 campaign.

Dez Bryant was unstoppable down the stretch. Beginning in Week 10, he caught 50 passes for 879 yards and 10 touchdowns in his final eight games. This translates to 100 receptions for 1,758 yards and 20 scores over a whole season. He obviously won’t hit those numbers, but he’s a top-three fantasy receiver because things have finally clicked for him.

Projected 2013 Fantasy Stats: 94 catches. 1,460 yards. 12 total TDs.
    Projected 2013 Fantasy Points: 218.
Projected 2013 PPR Fantasy Points: 312.

  3. A.J. Green, WR, Bengals. Bye: 12.
A.J. Green was one of the NFL’s hottest receivers in the first half of the season last year, snagging a touchdown in nine consecutive games. However, he scored just once after Week 11. There’s some concern there, and Tyler Eifert’s presence will take away some end zone targets, but Green remains a top-three fantasy wideout.

Projected 2013 Fantasy Stats: 95 catches. 1,420 yards. 12 total TDs.
    Projected 2013 Fantasy Points: 214.
Projected 2013 PPR Fantasy Points: 309.

  4. Brandon Marshall, WR, Bears. Bye: 8.
AUG. 30 UPDATE: Updating yesterday’s story, Brandon Marshall said that he’ll play in the season opener. It’s unclear if he’s 100 percent or not, but I’d still draft him late in the second round.

AUG. 29 UPDATE: Brandon Marshall has taken a 4-day absence for a follow-up appointment for his offseason hip surgery. Marshall also sniped at the Bears, complaining that they haven’t taken his injury seriously. This is a weird situation, but I’m not going to move Marshall down all that much. It is something to monitor though.

JULY 25 UPDATE: Brandon Marshall reported to training camp in terrific shape. He weighs 235 pounds, but has just 6.2-percent body fat. He’s been working hard with Alshon Jeffery all spring and summer down in Florida. This is a great sign for Chicago’s entire offense.

Brandon Marshall is a PPR machine. Being Jay Cutler’s only viable option last year, Marshall was targeted more than any receiver in the NFL. His catches will go down this season with Martellus Bennett in the mix, but he’s still the No. 2 PPR wideout behind Calvin Johnson.

Projected 2013 Fantasy Stats: 107 catches. 1,430 yards. 11 total TDs.
    Projected 2013 Fantasy Points: 209.
Projected 2013 PPR Fantasy Points: 316.

  5. Larry Fitzgerald, WR, Cardinals. Bye: 9.
AUG. 18 UPDATE: Carson Palmer and Larry Fitzgerald already have great chemistry. Palmer targeted Fitzgerald five times against Dallas, and the future Hall of Fame wideout snagged three receptions for 44 yards in about a quarter-and-a-half of action. He also had a 24-yard catch wiped out because of a hold. Barring injury, it’ll be a major upset if Fitzgerald doesn’t finish as a top-10 fantasy receiver this year.

Larry Fitzgerald must be happy. After enduring the awful quarterbacking of John Skelton and Ryan Lindley last year, Fitzgerald now has Carson Palmer throwing to him. Palmer is nowhere near the quarterback he once was obviously, but he’s still good enough to get the ball downfield consistently to his wideouts. Fitzgerald is a top-10 receiver again.

Projected 2013 Fantasy Stats: 87 catches. 1,370 yards. 10 total TDs.
    Projected 2013 Fantasy Points: 197.
Projected 2013 PPR Fantasy Points: 284.

  6. Julio Jones, WR, Falcons. Bye: 6.
AUG. 16 UPDATE: Julio Jones was the only Falcons’ starter who saw more than two targets go his way at Baltimore. He snagged three of the four balls for 55 yards and a touchdown. Jones is set to have a monstrous campaign.

Julio Jones caught 79 balls for 1,198 yards and 10 touchdowns last year, but was extremely hot down the stretch. He scored five times between Weeks 12 and 16 and then logged 11 receptions for 182 yards and two touchdowns in the NFC Championship. Now in his third year, Jones has cemented his status as a top fantasy receiver.

Projected 2013 Fantasy Stats: 85 catches. 1,280 yards. 11 total TDs.
    Projected 2013 Fantasy Points: 194.
Projected 2013 PPR Fantasy Points: 279.

  7. Demaryius Thomas, WR, Broncos. Bye: 9.
AUG. 18 UPDATE: Demaryius Thomas was thrown to six times against the Seahawks. He caught three of them for 52 yards. He did fumble, but otherwise looked very dominant. He’s definitely matured and is poised for a monstrous 2013 campaign.

Demaryius Thomas will see fewer targets with Wes Welker in the mix. Thomas is less likely to be affected than Eric Decker though. He’ll still be a middling fantasy WR1 option as long as Peyton Manning is throwing the ball to him.

Projected 2013 Fantasy Stats: 88 catches. 1,360 yards. 9 total TDs.
    Projected 2013 Fantasy Points: 190.
Projected 2013 PPR Fantasy Points: 277.

  8. Victor Cruz, WR, Giants. Bye: 9.
JULY 20 UPDATE: There was some concern that Victor Cruz would hold out and consequently have a down year, but the Giants did a great job of locking him up to a long-term deal this week. Cruz can be safely drafted as a low-end WR1.

Victor Cruz had a monstrous start to his 2012 campaign, scoring seven touchdowns in the first seven weeks. He fizzled out after that because of Eli Manning’s reported arm fatigue, but he should be able to return as a top-10 fantasy wideout as long as Manning is 100 percent again.

Projected 2013 Fantasy Stats: 82 catches. 1,300 yards. 9 total TDs.
    Projected 2013 Fantasy Points: 184.
Projected 2013 PPR Fantasy Points: 266.

  9. Roddy White, WR, Falcons. Bye: 6.
Roddy White is no longer a strong WR1 option because Julio Jones and Tony Gonzalez have taken away his end zone targets, but he’s still a strong fantasy WR2. He hauled in 92 receptions for 1,351 yards and seven touchdowns in 2012. The big concern is that he’ll be 32 in November, but he should be fine for at least one more season.

    Follow @walterfootball for updates.

Projected 2013 Fantasy Stats: 90 catches. 1,320 yards. 7 total TDs.
    Projected 2013 Fantasy Points: 174.
Projected 2013 PPR Fantasy Points: 264.

  10. Danny Amendola, WR, Patriots. Bye: 10.
AUG. 17 UPDATE: It’s almost as if Danny Amendola and Tom Brady have been playing together for a decade. The two were incredibly in sync against the Buccaneers. Brady threw to Amendola seven times on two drives, and the former Ram came up with six receptions for 71 yards and a touchdown. If Amendola can stay healthy all year – a big if – he’ll definitely be a top-10 fantasy receiver.

JUNE 27 UPDATE: It’s tough to count on Danny Amendola because he’s so injury-prone, but with Aaron Hernandez gone, Tom Brady will have to rely on him more than initially planned.

Danny Amendola goes from Sam Bradford to Tom Brady. Think he’ll see an uptick in production? Amendola will probably be overdrafted though, as he still shouldn’t be trusted to stay healthy. If he can remain on the field, however, there’s no reason why he can’t match Wes Welker’s numbers.

    Follow @walterfootball for updates.

Projected 2013 Fantasy Stats: 99 catches. 1,210 yards. 7 total TDs.
    Projected 2013 Fantasy Points: 173.
Projected 2013 PPR Fantasy Points: 272.
