This is the 2019 NFL Combine Stock Report for the wide receivers. Follow me @walterfootball for updates.
Miles Boykin, WR, Notre Dame
Miles Boykin posted some ridiculous workout numbers at the combine. He ran a 4.42 at 6-4, 220, which is absurd. The thing is, that wasn’t even his best figure. His 11-foot-8 broad jump was the third-best broad jump in combine history. He also had a 43.5-inch vertical and a 6.77 3-cone.
A.J. Brown, WR, Ole Miss
D.K. Metcalf stole the show in Indianapolis, but his teammate, A.J. Brown, had a strong performance as well. His 4.49 40 was great considering his size (6-1, 226). There were some questions heading into the combine about Brown’s explosive ability, and he answered those worries with his 4.49 40, 10-foot broad jump and 36.5-inch vertical.
Hakeem Butler, WR, Iowa State
Hakeem Butler is not a very good player, but some coach will believe that he’ll be able to mold Butler into one. Butler had some terrific workout numbers in Indianapolis, posting a 4.48 40 at 6-5, 227. He also notched a 10-foot-8 broad jump and a 36-inch vertical.
Parris Campbell, WR, Ohio State
Unlike some of the great performers at the combine, Parris Campbell was seen as a good player heading into Indianapolis. What he did in the workout drills confirmed what we all saw on tape: an explosive play-maker who figures to be a top-50 pick. Campbell tied for the fastest 40 time among the receivers, notching a 4.31 40. He also had an 11-foot-3 broad jump and a 40-inch vertical.
Emanuel Hall, WR, Missouri
Emanuel Hall broke the 4.4 barrier in Indianapolis, getting a 4.39, which was impressive at his size (6-2, 201). Hall also notched an 11-foot-9 brad jump and a 43.5-inch vertical; the former was the second-best such mark in combine history.
N’Keal Harry, WR, Arizona State
N’Keal Harry’s combine numbers were pretty decent – 4.53 40 (at 6-2, 228), a 10-foot-2 broad jump, a 38.5-inch vertical – but the big take-away from the weekend for Harry was that he interviewed extremely well with teams. Harry was very impressive in the meetings, which is what’s most important from the combine process.
Lil’Jordan Humphrey, WR, Texas
A bad 40 time isn’t a huge deal, but a 4.75 40 could kill Lil’Jordan Humphrey’s chances of being chosen prior to the late rounds. Humphrey had the slowest 40 among all the receivers. In fact, seven quarterbacks ran faster than him!
Terry McLaurin, WR, Ohio State
Terry McLaurin is having an excellent pre-draft process. He was exceptional at the Senior Bowl, and he continued to thrive in Indianapolis. He ran a 4.35 40 at 6-0, 208, and he also posted a 10-foot-5 broad jump, a 37.5-inch vertical and a 7.01 3-cone time.
D.K. Metcalf, WR, Ole Miss
What D.K. Metcalf did at the combine was so impressive that he was the top trending topic on Twitter on Saturday afternoon. Metcalf, who looked like a tank at 6-3, 228, managed to run a 4.33 40-yard dash. He also posted an 11-foot-2 broad jump and a 40.5-inch vertical. There’s speculation now that Metcalf will be a top-10 pick, but I’m not so sure about that. Metcalf is not a great player; he’s a poor route-runner, and he was not productive in college. His 3-cone time (7.38) was disappointing as well. That said, Metcalf answered any speed questions people had of him heading into the combine.
Riley Ridley, WR, Georgia
Riley Ridley is the opposite of D.K. Metcalf. Unlike Metcalf, Ridley is a good player who runs routes extremely well. Unfortunately, he didn’t show well at the combine. He ran a 4.58 40 and posted a 30.5-inch vertical and a 7.22 3-cone time.
Deebo Samuel, WR, South Carolina
Deebo Samuel’s numbers were solid – 4.48 40, 30-inch vertical, 7.03 3-cone time – but he definitely helped himself at the combine by being one of the top performers in the drills. This shouldn’t have been a surprise, as Samuel thrived at the Senior Bowl.
Darius Slayton, WR, Auburn
Darius Slayton wasn’t great in the drills, as he was guilty of some drops, but his numbers definitely stood out. He ran a 4.39 40 at 6-1, 190. He also notched an 11-foot-3 broad jump, a 40.5-inch vertical and a 7.00 3-cone time.
