For a year there has been speculation that Seattle Seahawks franchise quarterback Russell Wilson is wanting to be traded out of Seattle. Seahawks head coach Pete Carrol and general manager John Schneider have stated that the franchise has no plans to trade Wilson and are committed to him as their quarterback. In speaking with Seahawks sources, the team is not interested in trading Wilson. If the situation deteriorates to the point that a trade is forced, however, the Seahawks have a quarterback prospect they have taken a liking to in Ole Miss quarterback Matt Corral. Seahawks evaluators like Corral and his NFL potential.

Corral has some similarities to Wilson in terms of mobility and athleticism to go along with pocket-passing ability while also being a quarterback with less than ideal height. In 2021, Corral completed 68 percent of his passes for 3,349 yards, 20 touchdowns and five interceptions. He notched 11 rushing touchdowns and 597 yards on the ground as well. In 2020, his first season under Lane Kiffin, a former Pete Carrol assistant from 2001-2006, Corral completed 71 percent of his passes for 3,337 yards, 29 touchdowns and 14 interceptions. The sophomore also ran for 506 yards and four rushing touchdowns.

The Seahawks are without their first-round pick in the 2022 NFL Draft thanks to the Jamal Adams trade, so currently their highest selection the 41st-overall pick. Corral could potentially get to pick No. 41, so he could be a player to consider for the Seahawks if they are forced to trade Wilson. A trade of Wilson would land Seattle multiple first-rounders, and in that case the organization could consider taking Corral on the opening night of the 2022 NFL Draft.

Seahawks sources say the team’s plan is to stick with Wilson and look to rebound in 2021. If Wilson forces his way out of town, hoewver, the organization likes what is has seen from Corral.
