2012 Fantasy Football Rookie Rankings (Re-Draft)

May 6, 2012

There will be many more 2012 Fantasy Football Rankings and features in the late spring and summer, including tons of 2012 Fantasy Football Mock Drafts, Player Rankings, Sleepers and Busts. I’ll also have an extensive 2012 NFL Fantasy Football Preseason Stock Report.

2012 Fantasy Football Rookie Rankings: Re-Draft

  1. Trent Richardson, RB, Browns
Trent Richardson should be a second-round pick in re-draft fantasy leagues. I’ve learned my lesson with rookie running backs, but Richardson is an exception because he’s the top running back prospect since Adrian Peterson. He’s a stud, and he’s never going to come off the field because of his ability to catch passes out of the backfield.

  2. Doug Martin, RB, Buccaneers
Doug Martin probably should be the second rookie chosen in re-draft leagues, just slightly ahead of the two quarterbacks. The Buccaneers really don’t like LeGarrette Blount because he can’t catch balls out of the backfield or pass protect. Martin can do that. He’s drawn comparisons to Ray Rice, so he’s worth drafting in Rounds 6 or 7.

  3. Robert Griffin, QB, Redskins
It’s very close for me, but I’d rather have Robert Griffin because of his potential to accumulate rushing numbers. Think of Griffin as more upside, but Luck as being safer.

  4. Andrew Luck, QB, Colts
You can’t go wrong with either of the top two rookie quarterbacks this year. Andrew Luck will pick up rushing yardage, as he has very underrated athleticism. He’s more Aaron Rodgers than Peyton Manning.

  5. Ronnie Hillman, RB, Broncos
Ronnie Hillman should see action right away as the change-of-pace back behind Willis McGahee. The upside is that McGahee is wearing down, so Hillman could see lots of playing time toward the end of the year.

  6. Isaiah Pead, RB, Rams
Steven Jackson isn’t going to last much longer. If he gets hurt, Isaiah Pead will be on the field a lot, and should produce as a pass-catcher.

  7. David Wilson, RB, Giants
It’ll take an injury to Ahmad Bradshaw for David Wilson to see much action. Bradshaw is injury-prone, so Wilson is worth drafting late.

  8. Coby Fleener, TE, Colts
I normally wouldn’t rank a tight end this highly, but Coby Fleener’s familiarity (as well as his raw talent as a pass-catcher) will probably help him accumulate big numbers this year.

  9. Michael Floyd, WR, Cardinals
Michael Floyd will benefit from opposing defenses paying lots of attention to Larry Fitzgerald. Unfortunately, Arizona’s quarterbacking situation is pretty dubious, so Floyd won’t produce much this year.

  10. Justin Blackmon, WR, Jaguars
Poor Justin Blackmon is going to rot away in Jacksonville as long as Blaine Gabbert is under center. Having said that, he’s worth a late-round flier because Chad Henne could take over by October. I’m not saying Henne’s any good, but he’s a billion times better than Gabbert.

  11. Kendall Wright, WR, Titans
It’s possible that Kendall Wright could have the best rookie year of all the receivers. He’s very talented, and out of the Titans, Jaguars (Justin Blackmon) and Cardinals (Michael Floyd), Tennessee has the most stable quarterbacking situation.

  12. Dan Herron, RB, Bengals
We’ll know if Dan Herron is any good if he gets some playing time this year. His competition is BenJarvus Green-Ellis and Bernard Scott.

  13. Alshon Jeffery, WR, Bears
Alshon Jeffery would have been a first-round pick if it weren’t for work-ethic concerns. He has the quarterback to make him a solid fantasy receiver.

  14. Vick Ballard, RB, Colts
Vick Ballard could win a starting job this year. The Colts don’t have much at running back. He’ll be worth drafting late.

  15. Bernard Pierce, RB, Ravens
Bernard Pierce has a very good chance to be Baltimore’s No. 2 running back. He’ll have to be added during the year if Ray Rice gets hurt.

  16. DeVier Posey, WR, Texans
DeVier Posey was a reach in Round 3, but all he needs to do is beat out Kevin Walter for playing time. There’s a chance that could happen.

  17. LaMichael James, RB, 49ers
LaMichael James needs Frank Gore to get injured, but that happens frequently. Even still, he’ll share touches with Kendall Hunter and Brandon Jacobs when that occurs.

  18. Stephen Hill, WR, Jets
Stephen Hill has immense upside, but he’s really raw. He and Tim Tebow could have a good rapport at some point though; Tebow had lots of success throwing to another Georgia Tech wideout in Denver.

  19. A.J. Jenkins, WR, 49ers
The 49ers reached for A.J. Jenkins. It’ll take some time for him to produce.

  20. Brian Quick, WR, Rams
Speaking of being raw, Brian Quick has tons of upside, but I wouldn’t bet on him posting big numbers this year.

  21. Nick Toon, WR, Saints
Any Saint receiver has fantasy upside. There is some playing time available in the wake of Robert Meachem’s signing with San Diego.

  22. Marc Tyler, RB, Packers
Marc Tyler wasn’t even drafted, but he could easily make Green Bay’s roster because of the team’s lack of depth at running back. If he does, there’s a good chance he’ll get playing time because James Starks and Alex Green have injury issues.

  23. Mohamed Sanu, WR, Bengals
The Bengals envision Mohamed Sanu as their next T.J. Houshmandzadeh. He doesn’t have the explosion to be a No. 1 receiver, but he’ll be a solid possession type. There’s an opening at the WR2 position on the roster.

  24. T.J. Graham, WR, Bills
Forgive me for not being excited about a guy who could be Ryan Fitzpatrick’s No. 2 receiver.

  25. Chris Givens, WR, Rams
One of these Ram receivers could break into the starting lineup this year. Of course, that doesn’t mean much because Sam Bradford throwing to a rookie receiver doesn’t exactly scream fantasy potential.

  26. Ryan Broyles, WR, Lions
Matthew Stafford has a ton of targets. It’s unlikely that a rookie receiver will do much, but I won’t dismiss the possibility.

  27. Dwayne Allen, TE, Colts
Andrew Luck loves sticking the ball to his tight ends (not that there’s anything wrong with that). Dwayne Allen, however, will focus more on blocking.

  28. Evan Rodriguez, TE, Bears
  29. Chris Rainey, RB, Steelers
  30. Lamar Miller, RB, Dolphins
  31. Cyrus Gray, RB, Chiefs
  32. Terrance Ganaway, RB, Jets
  33. Rueben Randle, WR, Giants
  34. Joe Adams, WR, Panthers
  35. Brandon Weeden, QB, Browns
  36. Jarius Wright, WR, Vikings
  37. Greg Childs, WR, Vikings
  38. Alfred Morris, RB, Redskins
  39. B.J. Cunningham, WR, Dolphins
  40. Rishard Matthews, WR, Dolphins
  41. Edwin Baker, RB, Chargers
  42. Marvin McNutt, WR, Eagles
  43. Keshawn Martin, WR, Texans
  44. Marvin Jones, WR, Bengals
  45. Tommy Streeter, WR, Ravens
  46. Adrien Robinson, TE, Giants
  47. Robert Turbin, RB, Seahawks
  48. T.Y. Hilton, WR, Colts
  49. Michael Egnew, TE, Dolphins
  50. Orson Charles, TE, Bengals
  51. Ladarius Green, TE, Chargers
  52. Danny Coale, WR/P, Cowboys
  53. Travis Benjamin, WR, Browns
  54. LaVon Brazill, WR, Colts
  55. Ryan Tannehill, QB, Dolphins
  56. Juron Criner, WR, Raiders
  57. Devon Wylie, WR, Chiefs
  58. Daryl Richardson, RB, Rams
  59. Michael Smith, RB, Buccaneers
  60. Bryce Brown, RB, Eagles
  61. Chris Polk, RB, Eagles
  62. James Hanna, TE, Cowboys
  63. Dwight Jones, WR, Texans
  64. Junior Hemingway, WR, Chiefs
  65. Toney Clemons, WR, Steelers
  66. Jeremy Ebert, WR, Patriots
  67. Jordan White, WR, Jets
  68. David Paulson, TE, Steelers
  69. Drake Dunsmore, TE, Buccaneers
  70. Brad Smelley, TE, Browns
  71. Russell Wilson, QB, Seahawks
  72. Ryan Lindley, QB, Cardinals
  73. Brock Osweiler, QB, Broncos
  74. Nick Foles, QB, Eagles
  75. Kirk Cousins, QB, Redskins
  76. B.J. Coleman, QB, Packers
  77. Chandler Harnish, QB, Colts
