Goals Entering the 2025 NFL Draft: The Eagles have a great roster with no current needs. Thus, they can continue to find help for the future. This would entail finding a new right tackle to eventually replace Lane Johnson once he retires in the near future. They’ll also need to find a new tight end if they end up trading Dallas Goedert.
2025 NFL Draft Accomplishments: Howie Roseman does it once again. Thanks to incompetent teams drafting ahead of them, the Eagles were able to land a steal with their first-round pick. Jihaad Campbell should have gone in the late teens, yet he inexplicably fell all the way to No. 31. The Eagles lost some edge players this offseason, so Campbell should be able to help fill that void, playing the role that Haason Reddick did a couple of years ago.
The Eagles wanted to target a safety in the second round because of Chauncey Gardner-Johnson’s departure. They found one in Andrew Mukuba, though he was a rare reach for the team. Xavier Watts was the better option, whereas Mukuba was considered a mid-round prospect.
Roseman rebounded on Saturday. He made eight picks on Day 3, and yet none of them scored worse than a “B” grade. Three of the selections earned an A- or better.
Philadelphia came away with a strong draft. Aside from the Mukuba reach, the Eagles once again did a great job of adding players through the draft.
NFL Draft Individual Grades:
31. Jihaad Campbell, LB, Alabama – A+ Grade
Jihaad Campbell could have easily gone in the teens. It was shocking to see him fall, and that may have been a byproduct of some injury concerns. Still, he provides way too much value at this spot. Campbell can play both linebacker and edge, much like Haason Reddick. The Eagles got a ton of production out of Reddick, so it makes sense for them to draft Campbell.
64. Andrew Mukuba, S, Texas – D Grade
The Eagles had interest in the safeties, so when Xavier Watts fell to them, I thought it was going to be a no-brainer pick. Instead, they made a rare mistake by drafting Andrew Mukuba, who is a mid-round prospect and a very mediocre athlete. I don’t understand why the Eagles made this pick, given that there were better safeties available.
111. Ty Robinson, DT, Nebraska – B Grade
Is anyone surprised that the Eagles drafted a defensive lineman? Ty Robinson has limited upside, so I don’t love this pick, but he has a relentless motor and could be a decent rotational backup in the NFL. I thought he’d go around this range.
145. Mac McWilliams, CB, Central Florida – B Grade
The Eagles lost Darius Slay this offseason, so they needed to obtain at least one cornerback. They got a decent one here in Mac McWilliams, an average athlete who was expected to go around this range.
161. Smael Mondon Jr., LB, Georgia – A+ Grade
The Eagles drafted a talented Georgia defender? So shocking! Smel Mondon Jr. has plus speed and athleticism to go with a good skill set. I thought he could have been drafted two rounds earlier, so I’m a big fan of this selection.
168. Drew Kendall, C, Boston College – A- Grade
The Eagles love to address the trenches. They have their center locked up with a new contract, but Drew Kendall can be a solid backup for them. Kendall was projected to go earlier than this, so I like the value.
181. Kyle McCord, QB, Syracuse – B+ Grade
The Eagles didn’t need a backup for Jalen Hurts because they have Tanner “The Irish Assassin” McKee, but Kyle McCord was just too good to pass up at this spot. McCord led all of college football in passing yards, so I projected him in the fourth round.
191. Myles Hinton, OT, Michigan – B+ Grade
The Eagles needed to find a successor for Lane Johnson, who is now in his mid-30s. Perhaps that’ll be Myles Hinton. The Michigan product was projected to go in this round, so this is a solid pick.
207. Cameron Williams, OT, Texas – A Grade
Another player who could end up being a successor for Lane Johnson. I like this pick better. Cameron Williams could have gone earlier than this, as he is a massive tackle with loads of potential, but he’s very raw and will need multiple years to develop.
209. Antwaun Powell-Ryland, DE, Virginia Tech – B Grade
The Eagles are drafting another pass rusher, which can’t surprise anyone. Antwaun Powell-Ryland is not someone I thought would be drafted early in the process, but there was some buzz around him late in the process, so it makes sense that Philadelphia would take him.
