2020 Fantasy Football Rankings - Tight Ends (Sept. 8):
Top 10 | 11-20 | 21-45

Other Positions: QB | RB | WR | Top 250 | Sleepers | Busts

  1. Travis Kelce, TE, Chiefs. Bye: 10.
This past season was the first in which Travis Kelce’s overall fantasy numbers didn’t improve. He still caught 97 passes for 1,229 yards and six overall touchdowns, down from 10 in 2018. Keep in mind that Patrick Mahomes missed two-and-a-half games, so Kelce’s stats could’ve been a bit better.

Projected 2020 Fantasy Stats: 100 catches. 1,260 yards. 8 total TDs.
    Projected 2020 Fantasy Points: 174.
Projected 2020 PPR Fantasy Points: 274.

  2. George Kittle, TE, 49ers. Bye: 11.
George Kittle caught 85 passes for 1,053 yards and five touchdowns despite missing two games in his third NFL season. He was a monster, as always, but he has some ugly floor games because there are some weeks in which Jimmy Garoppolo won’t throw the ball at all.

Projected 2020 Fantasy Stats: 94 catches. 1,180 yards. 6 total TDs.
    Projected 2020 Fantasy Points: 160.
Projected 2020 PPR Fantasy Points: 254.

  3. Darren Waller, TE, Raiders. Bye: 6.
SEPT. 7 UPDATE: I’ve gotten word from Charlie Campbell that Darren Waller is in store for a huge 2020 season. If you recall, Charlie first alerted me about Waller’s great outlook last year, prompting me to recommend Waller as a sleeper.

“Charlie Campbell said in our live fantasy football draft stream that the Raiders love Darren Waller, and that he’s been their best offensive player in training camp. I’m going to move Waller up my rankings, and I imagine I’ll be higher on him in PPR formats, given Derek Carr’s passing tendencies.”

I wrote this last year, so Charlie deserves credit for identifying Waller as a sleeper. Waller had a great year, and he should be a TE1 once again.

Projected 2020 Fantasy Stats: 86 catches. 1,040 yards. 7 total TDs.
    Projected 2020 Fantasy Points: 146.
Projected 2020 PPR Fantasy Points: 232.

  4. Tyler Higbee, TE, Rams. Bye: 9.
I can’t begin to explain what happened to Tyler Higbee late in the year. Higbee, known as a blocking tight end, was expected to see his usage increase a bit when Gerald Everett suffered an injury. Instead, he suddenly transformed into one of the top tight ends in the NFL. In his final five games, Higbee caught 43 passes for 522 yards and two touchdowns. Translated over 16 games, that would be 137 receptions (!!) for 1,670 yards (!!!!). This is obviously not sustainable, but Higbee is certainly in the conversations to be one of the top tight ends chosen in 2020 drafts, especially with Brandin Cooks gone.

Projected 2020 Fantasy Stats: 84 catches. 1,030 yards. 7 total TDs.
    Projected 2020 Fantasy Points: 145.
Projected 2020 PPR Fantasy Points: 229.

  5. Zach Ertz, TE, Eagles. Bye: 9.
Zach Ertz was banged up during the year, which would explain why his catches (116 to 88), yards (1,163 to 916) and touchdowns (8 to 6) all dropped from his 2018 numbers. I expect Ertz to rebound in 2020, as he’s such a prominent weapon in Philadelphia’s offense.

Projected 2020 Fantasy Stats: 88 catches. 950 yards. 8 total TDs.
    Projected 2020 Fantasy Points: 143.
Projected 2020 PPR Fantasy Points: 231.

  6. Mark Andrews, TE, Ravens. Bye: 8.
Mark Andrews has developed quite the rapport with Lamar Jackson. Andrews had a stellar 2019 campaign, catching 64 passes for 852 yards and 10 touchdowns. There’s no reason to think he’ll regress in his third year, outside of his touchdowns coming back to the mean. Hayden Hurst’s departure only helps matters.

Projected 2013 Fantasy Stats: 64 catches. 870 yards. 8 total TDs.
    Projected 2013 Fantasy Points: 135.
Projected 2013 PPR Fantasy Points: 199.

  7. Jack Doyle, TE, Colts. Bye: 7.
It’s no surprise that Jack Doyle’s targets increased when Eric Ebron quit on the team late in the year. Doyle should have a big 2020 campaign, especially with Philip Rivers providing an upgrade at quarterback.

Projected 2020 Fantasy Stats: 74 catches. 760 yards. 8 total TDs.
    Projected 2020 Fantasy Points: 124.
Projected 2020 PPR Fantasy Points: 198.

  8. Mike Gesicki, TE, Dolphins. Bye: 11.
AUG. 5 UPDATE: I was already high on Mike Gesicki entering this season. Now, I’m even more bullish. Gesicki faced some competition from Albert Wilson in the slot, but given that Wilson quit on his team for an opt-out, Gesicki should see even more snaps in the slot.

Mike Gesicki flashed some major potential to close out his second season, catching at least four passes in four of his final five games. Gesicki has major athleticism and upside, so it’s nice to see that he’s finally putting it all together. Chan Gailey plans on using Gesicki in the slot, which means he has some major PPR potential.

Projected 2020 Fantasy Stats: 74 catches. 800 yards. 6 total TDs.
    Projected 2020 Fantasy Points: 116.
Projected 2020 PPR Fantasy Points: 190.

  9. Rob Gronkowski, TE, Buccaneers. Bye: 13.
AUG. 19 UPDATE: Based on what he has heard and seen, Peter King has predicted that Rob Gronkowski will see the fewest snaps of the three tight ends in Tampa Bay this year. Given Gronkowski’s age and decline in 2018, this makes sense. He could still be in line for many touchdowns, but Gronkowski is being drafted way too early at his sixth-round ADP.

Rob Gronkowski is back! This will excite many, and Gronkowski will be overdrafted as a result. Gronkowski will be a big factor in the end zone, but don’t forget that he looked decrepit in 2018.

Projected 2013 Fantasy Stats: 52 catches. 660 yards. 8 total TDs.
    Projected 2020 Fantasy Points: 114.
Projected 2020 PPR Fantasy Points: 166.

  10. Dallas Goedert, TE, Eagles. Bye: 9.
Dallas Goedert would be a top-five player in these rankings if it weren’t for Zach Ertz. Goedert is a highly talented, athletic tight end who is still productive despite Ertz’s presence.

Projected 2020 Fantasy Stats: 62 catches. 680 yards. 6 total TDs.
    Projected 2020 Fantasy Points: 114.
Projected 2020 PPR Fantasy Points: 176.
