2018 Preseason All-American Projections: Kickers and Punters

Heading into the 2018 college football season WalterFootball.com will debut our projections for the nation’s leaders during the fall. The All-American teams always have some surprises and the stars of next fall could be the headlining players next April in the 2019 NFL Draft.

First-Team Kicker: Matt Gay, Utah



Gay was very accurate for Utah in 2017, connecting on 88 percent of his field goals (30-of-34). He had a long field goal of 56 yards, which he made twice. Gay also made field goals oatf 53 and 50 yards. He had two misses in the 40-yard range.



Second-Team Kicker: Justin Yoon, Notre Dame



In 2017, Yoon was 14-of-18 with a long of 46 yards. He was 13-of-17 in 2016 with a long of 40 yards. Yoon was an impressive kicker as a freshman for the Fighting Irish in 2015, making 15-of-17 kicks. He was 3-for-4 that season when considering his total attempts from over 40 and 50 yards. Yoon was 50-of-52 on extra points in 2015.



Third-Team Kicker: John Baron II, San Diego State



In 2017, Baron was 12-of-15 with a long of 43 yards. He had a strong debut in 2016, hitting on 91 percent of his field goals. Baron was 1-of-2 in the 50-yard-plus range and a perfect 5-for-5 in the 40-yard range that season.

Kicker Honorable Mentions: Minnesota’s Emmit Carpenter and Ohio’s Louie Zervos.



First-Team Punter: Austin Seibert, Oklahoma



Seibert averaged 42.3 yards per punt in 2017 with a long of 57. He also made the Ray Guy Award watch list for the 2017 season. The sophomore averaged 41.1 yards per punt in 2016, but with the Sooners’ offense consistently moving the ball, Seibert was consistently aiming to pin offenses in poor field position. As a freshman, he averaged 42 yards per punt with a long of 58.



Second-Team Punter:Corey Fatoni, Missouri



In 2017, Fatony averaged 44 yards per punt with a long of 70. He had a strong sophomore season with an average of 43.8 yards per punt and a long of 60 yards. In 2015, Fatony averaged 42.9 yards per punt with a long of 61 yards.





Third-Team Punter: Zach Sinor, Oklahoma State



In 2017, Sinor averaged 43.1 yards per punt with a long of 57 yards. As a sophomore, he averaged 42.8 yards per punt with a long of 65 yards. Sinor had a long of 65 as a freshman while averaging 40.1 yards per punt.

Punter Honorable Mentions: N.C. State’s A.J. Cole and California’s Steven Coutts.
