NFL TV Ratings Decline: Worst in 10 Years

I wrote an article last week about the impending NFL TV Ratings Decline and How to Fix It. I obviously didn’t know if the NFL ratings would plummet when I composed that article, but I was basing it off the trajectory of the NBA, as well as the NFL’s decision to embrace SJW nonsense.

My fears came true, unfortunately, and they were even worse than I imagined. Television ratings for the Chiefs-Texans affair was a 10-year low for a debut game of a season. If that wasn’t bad enough, consider that ratings should’ve been higher automatically compared to last year because there are far fewer people watching football games at bars and restaurants. Most people are at home in front of their television sets. Yet, they weren’t tuning into the first NFL game in seven months.

This was not surprising in the slightest. I spoke to many people this summer who said they were either going to begin watching less football or stop tuning in entirely. A frequent e-mailer of mine, a big Houston Texans fan, told me that he canceled his season tickets. I asked most of these people what the NFL could do to get back in their good graces, and most of them had the same response: “Stand for the national anthem.” I had a few “no more social justice stuff.” No one said they would never watch again if the NFL made amends.

The NFL apparently didn’t get the memo that was available from the NBA TV ratings disaster. NBA playoff ratings have been sliced by 40 percent. NASCAR and PGA have both scored better ratings than NBA playoff games. Tucker Carlson Tonight, a cable news show, has routinely achieved double the ratings compared to NBA playoff games. Sure, it’s an election season, but no news show, regardless of how good it is, should ever outscore a popular sport like basketball.

And yet, that’s exactly what’s happening. A recent poll found that 57 percent of the people who stopped watching the NBA said they were tired of political stuff. This data was available to the NFL before its season began, so why didn’t Roger Goodell make good use of this information and prevent his league from falling into the same trap as the NBA? Goodell has proven himself time and again to be grossly incompetent, but this, as a Hall of Fame running back once said, is the camel that broke the straw’s back. Goodell should be fired immediately.

I don’t know who the new commissioner would be, but he would have to eliminate any divisive SJW nonsense. There was plenty of this during the Chiefs-Texans game. The Texans, for example, stood on the field for the black national anthem, yet scurried into the locker room for the real national anthem. The Chiefs, to their credit, remained standing for the national anthem, but edge rusher Alex Okafor ruined it by kneeling. One of the singers of the national anthem was wearing a t-shirt with the picture of a criminal who was arrested nine times. Nine times? Nine times.

Following the national anthem, the Chiefs and Texans locked arms in unity, which was met by a chorus of boos from the 15,000 masked fans on hand at Arrowhead. Rich, millionaire NFL TV analysts chided the fans for booing the unity, neglecting to realize why the fans were really booing. What the media hasn’t told you was that the booing was prompted by anti-American rhetoric that appeared on the Jumbotron at Arrowhead Stadium as the locked-arm unity was taking place. This anti-American propaganda deserved to be booed.

Cris Collinsworth was next. The rich, millionaire NBC football analyst spoke up about SJW nonsense, chiding us common folk for not accepting that burning, looting and marauding is necessary to facilitate change. I don’t even know what was spoken during halftime because I turned off the TV. I was not alone in doing so, I imagine.

The NFL has a huge problem that must be fixed. And I want, or rather, need to see it fixed because my business depends on football thriving. Fewer eyeballs on TV means fewer page views. Fewer page views means fewer ad impressions, which means I can’t pay my employees. I want to keep my employees employed.

The three-step plan for improving the NBA’s TV ratings applies to the NFL. For those who missed it last week, here’s how the NBA NFL can increase its TV viewership:

1. Stand for the national anthem. We live in the greatest nation in the history of this planet. America is so amazing that people literally die trying to get to this wonderful place. We all have American privilege, so it’s important to acknowledge how lucky we are. Kneeling sends the opposite message: a horrible, anti-American sentiment that just divides the population. And speaking of dividing the population, only one national anthem must be played because there is only one.

2. Stop with the SJW nonsense, please. Arrogant blue checkmarks on Twitter and millionaire TV analysts will never understand this because they live in an Ivory Tower bubble, but SJW nonsense offends many people, otherwise known as the silent majority. “Get Woke, Go Broke” is real. The NFL is not immune from going broke. If no one watches, how will the league make money once the TV contracts expire?

3. Offer a sincere apology to the fans and the police. I can’t think of any profession that has had it harder than police in recent months. There are some rotten apples in police departments, but that’s the case for every single profession. Most police officers are good people, and it’s important that they have our support because they put their lives on the line to protect us. Meanwhile, I’m not sure an apology to the fans is necessary, but it would be a nice gesture.

Anyone who happens to be sensible will understand that these three items are easy and necessary to accomplish. Football players may feel bad that their misguided mission to cause a rift among the population will have been thwarted, but if they want to save their league, they’ll follow my steps.
