2010 NFL Draft E-mails – Random Post-First Round Mailbag

  • From Danaconda P. (Before the 2010 NFL Draft):

I’m planning on taking an entire bottle of sleeping pills if the Giants draft Pierre-Paul and trade Osi away.

–> If someone knows Danaconda, can you make sure that he’s still alive and hasn’t overdosed? Thanks.

  • From Jesse F:

Am I missing something here? Bradford played a spread and is coming off of shoulder surgery. Tebow might have aids, yet there’s Clausen, a pro-style QB, that thrived even with an inept, fat playcaller.

–> Aaron Rodgers fell to 24. Five years later, teams are still dumb.

  • From Jordan N:

You had Jimmy Clausen at 30 in your final mock draft, but the entire offseason you talked about how Clausen was the best QB by far, wrote an article why he should be the #1 pick, and refused to drop him in your mock draft until you finally realized that maybe he isn’t as good as I thought he was.

You can’t deny that you thought Clausen should be the #1 pick for 3 1/2 months and he fell out of the first round and will be at best the 3rd QB maybe even the 4th taken. He can still be successful in the pros, but you majorly whiffed with him.

–> Disagree. Consider the following scenario:

    – In 2005, I had Aaron Rodgers going No. 1 in my mock to the 49ers in January-March.

    – I thought Rodgers was going to be a much better quarterback than Alex Smith.

    – In April, there was buzz that the 49ers liked Smith more. So, I moved Rodgers down.

    – Rodgers fell into the mid 20s on Draft Day.

Considering all of that, did I whiff on Rodgers? Of course not – many NFL teams are just stupid and clearly don’t learn from their mistakes.

  • From Eric F:

I was curious if you would agree with this, Anthony Davis may be in one of the best situations of any prospect in 10 years, while it is a risk, I think Mike Singeltary can coach him up, he’s turned Vernon Davis around Alex Smith now looks like at least a serviceable QB and if Davis pans out, Smith will have some of the best protection in the league with Davis and Iupati.

–> I agree. Anthony Davis was a lazy player at Rutgers, but Mike Singletary will whip him into shape. If Singletary can turn Vernon Davis around, he can do the same with Anthony Davis.

  • From Mark K:

With regard to your”Buffalo Chicken Salad” (that you mentioned in your 2010 NFL Draft Blog), here in Buffalo we just call it chicken salad.

–> So what do you call regular chicken salad? Knowing this, I don’t think I could ever move to Buffalo.
