2020 NFL Scouting Combine Team Thoughts on Workouts

This is the 2020 NFL Combine Stock Report for the running backs. Follow me @walterfootball for updates.

Salvon Ahmed, RB, Washington
Salvon Ahmed was expected to run in the 4.3s or 4.4s. Instead, he ran a 4.62, which is troubling, considering his small stature (5-11, 197). None of Ahmed’s other numbers were impressive either.

Cam Akers, RB, Florida State
Cam Akers showcased his amazing feet in the combine drills. He was very impressive in all regards, including his 40-yard dash (4.47). Akers was one of the major winners at the position.

Eno Benjamin, RB, Arizona State
Some are down on Eno Benjamin because of his 40 time (4.57), but that was his sole negative testing number. He posted one of the top 3-cone times (6.97), while notching a 39-inch vertical and a 10-2 broad jump. He looked very good in the drills as well.

A.J. Dillon, RB, Boston College
A.J. Dillon ran and jumped better than expected at the combine. Despite being a 247-pound physical back, Dillon ran a 4.53 40-yard dash, and he also registered a 41-inch vertical and a 10-11 broad jump. His 3-cone time wasn’t ideal (7.19), but he looked good in the drills, showing nice change-of-direction ability.

Darrynton Evans, RB, Appalachian State
Darrynton Evans did well in both the drills and tests. He ran a 4.41 40-yard dash, while notching a 37-inch vertical and 10-5 broad jump. He was even better in the drills, showing strong cutting ability and pass-catching skills.

Joshua Kelley, RB, UCLA
Joshua Kelley had the best 3-cone time of any running back at the combine, clocking in at 6.95. He also ran a solid 4.49 40 and showed nice pass-catching ability in the drills.

Scottie Phillips, RB, Ole Miss
Scottie Phillips had disappointing athletic testing. His 4.56 40-yard dash wasn’t horrible, but he ran a very slow 3-cone (7.40). His jumping numbers were poor as well; he had a 30-inch vertical and a 9-6 broad jump.

Jonathan Taylor, RB, Wisconsin
Jonathan Taylor may have moved himself atop the running back rankings with what he did in Indianapolis. He had the fastest 40 time of all the runners, clocking in at 4.39. His 3-cone (7.01), vertical (36) and broad jump (10-3) were all solid as well. Taylor, to no one’s surprise, thrived in the drills, too.
