2020 NFL Scouting Combine Team Thoughts on Workouts
This is the 2020 NFL Combine Stock Report for the offensive linemen. Follow me @walterfootball for updates.
Trey Adams, OT, Washington
Trey Adams was once considered a top-20 prospect, but those days are long gone. Adams has endured way too many injuries, and he looked like a shell of his former self in Indianapolis. He posted ghastly workout numbers and lumbered through the drills. He’s now a day-three reclamation project.
Mekhi Becton, OT, Louisville
Mekhi Becton didn’t go through the drills because he suffered tightness in his hamstring. This, however, didn’t matter because he did all he needed to in his 40 to improve his draft stock. Becton ran a ridiculous 5.10, which is insane at his size (357 pounds after being re-checked from his initial 364.) NFL team sources told Charlie Campbell that some organization could move up for Becton, and that was even before his incredible time.
Ezra Cleveland, OT, Boise State
Ezra Cleveland had a great week. He started by bench pressing 225 pounds 30 times, then was even more impressive the next day. He ran a 4.93 40 with a 1.73 10-yard split, then thrived in the 3-cone with a positional-best 7.26. Cleveland also performed well in the drills, so he cemented his second-round status.
Jack Driscoll, OT, Auburn
Jack Driscoll timed very well at the combine. He ran a 5.05 40, and more importantly, he registered a 1.74 10-yard dash, which was one of the best times of any player at the position.
Yasir Durant, OT, Missouri
Yasir Durant was one of the slowest offensive linemen Friday night, running a sluggish 5.52 40-yard dash. While the 40 isn’t overly important, especially for offensive linemen, Durant still deserves a stock-down arrow because he wasn’t any better in the drills. He looked sluggish and unathletic, so he could be a big-time liability in pass protection.
Nick Harris, C, Washington
Nick Harris began his excellent Friday by running a 5.10 40 with a terrific 1.76 10-yard split. He then backed up those workout numbers by looking very fluid and showing nice change of direction in the drills. Harris certainly helped his stock in Indianapolis.
Matt Hennessy, C, Temple
Matt Hennessy is another center who helped himself in Indianapolis. Hennessy was extremely smooth in the drills after posting some solid workout numbers. He ran a 5.18 40-yard dash, then notched a terrific 3-cone time of 7.45.
Jon Runyan, OT, Michigan
Jon Runyan had a strong workout in front of his father, who was on hand in Indianapolis. The younger Runyan ran a 5.08 40-yard dash with a 1.79 split. He also tested well with his agility, given his excellent 7.57 3-cone time. Runyan was solid in the drills as well.
Calvin Throckmorton, G/OT/C, Oregon
It was clear at the Senior Bowl that Calvin Throckmorton would have to move inside in the NFL. That belief was backed up at the combine. Throckmorton did not show the athleticism that he could compete as a tackle. He ran a 5.57 40-yard dash and posted a sluggish 8.07 3-cone time.
Prince Tega Wonogho, OT, Auburn
Prince Tega Wonogho wasn’t able to participate in the Combine because of a knee injury. He’ll have a chance to work out at his personal pro day in April, so hopefully he can recover by then.
Jedrick Wills, OT, Auburn
Jedrick Wills looked very fluid in the drills, matching his solid workout numbers. He ran a 5.05 40-yard dash and posted a 34.5-inch vertical. Wills has a chance to be the first tackle chosen in the 2020 NFL Draft.
Isaiah Wilson, OT, Georgia
Isaiah Wilson moved very well for a 350-pound offensive tackle. He was strong in the drills, and while his 5.32 40-yard dash won’t turn many heads, it wasn’t a bad time for someone his size. More importantly, Wilson’s 10-yard split was an impressive 1.79. His 3-cone time wasn’t very good (8.26), but considering his weight, it wasn’t a bad number either.
Tristan Wirfs, OT, Iowa
Tristan Wirfs was the star of the show Friday evening. While Mekhi Becton’s 40-yard dash was excellent for a 357-pound tackle, Tristan Wirfs’ result rivaled it. He ran a 4.85 40 with a 1.69 10-yard split. He also notched ridiculous jumping numbers (10-1 broad, 36.5 vertical). Most importantly, Wirfs looked like a very natural athlete in the drills. There’s a chance teams moved him ahead of some of the other top tackles.
