2020 NFL Scouting Combine Team Thoughts on Workouts

This is the 2020 NFL Combine Stock Report for the defensive backs. Follow me @walterfootball for updates.

Essang Bassey, CB, Wake Forest
Essang Bassey was at his best in the drills, as he showcased some excellent footwork. His workout numbers weren’t bad either; he ran a 4.46 40 while notching a 39.5-inch vertical and a 10-8 broad jump. Bassey’s height (5-9) is an issue, but he can play in the slot.

Jeremy Chinn, S, Southern Illinois
Jeremy Chinn displayed some amazing athleticism at the combine. He ran a 4.45 40, which is terrific when considering that he’s 6-3, 221. He also registered a 41-inch vertical and an 11-6 broad jump.

Cameron Dantzler, CB, Mississippi State
Cameron Dantzler didn’t get off to a good start on the final day of the combine, as he clocked in at 4.64 in the 40. However, he was one of the best players in the positional drills. He certainly helped himself despite his 40, which isn’t horrible considering that he’s a 6-2 corner.

Kyle Dugger, S, Lenoir-Rhyne
Kyle Dugger told the media he’d run in the 4.3s, so his 4.49 had to have been disappointing. However, he still showed tremendous athleticism elsewhere, leaping 42 inches vertically and 11-foot-2 broadly. Dugger also interviewed extremely well.

Jeff Gladney, CB, TCU
Jeff Gladney didn’t have a positive medical report at the combine. He’ll have to undergo meniscus repair. Also, his 3-cone time was dreadful, as he posted a very slow 7.26.

Javelin Guidry, CB, Utah
Javelin Guidry didn’t participate in the drills, but he certainly put himself on the map with his blazing-fast 4.29, which was the fastest time for any player at the position.

C.J. Henderson, CB, Florida
Of all the cornerbacks at the combine, no one was better in the drills than C.J. Henderson. THe Florida star may have vaulted himself into the top 15 with his performance. Henderson also ran a 4.39 40 and posted a 10-7 broad jump.

Darnay Holmes, CB, UCLA
Darnay Holmes is another cornerback who was absolutely stellar in the drills. Holmes’ 40 time wasn’t as special as C.J. Henderson’s, but a 4.48 was solid, nonetheless.

Josh Metellus, S, Michigan
Josh Metellus tested extremely well at the combine. On top of running a 4.55 40, he posted one of the better 3-cone times at his position with a 6.94. He also notched a 36.5-inch vertical and a 10-4 broad jump.

Tanner Muse, S, Clemson
Tanner Muse is another safety who showed off his athleticism in Indianapolis. Muse, at 6-2, 227, ran a shockingly fast 4.41 40 to go along with an impressive 10-4 broad jump.

Michael Ojemudia, CB, Iowa
Michael Ojemudia had some questions about his long speed entering the combine. He answered those with an excellent 4.45 40 at 6-1, 200. He also posted a 36-inch vertical and one of the better 3-cone times (6.87).

Troy Pride, CB, Notre Dame
Troy Pride also surprised with some of his workout numbers. Pride ran a blazing 4.40 40, which was top five at the position. He also posted one of the best 3-cone times of all the cornerbacks with a 6.94.

John Reid, CB, Penn State
John Reid was very fluid in the drills, but his testing numbers will stand out more. Reid had the fastest shuttle time of all the cornerbacks, and his 6.95 3-cone time was excellent as well. He also posted a 10-9 broad jump, a 36.5-inch vertical and a 4.49 40.

Reggie Robinson, CB, Tulsa
Reggie Robinson looked a bit stiff in the drills, but wasn’t too bad. His excellent workout numbers eclipsed the drills, however, as he put himself on the map with some amazing times and jumps. He ran a 4.44 despite being 6-1, 205. He also notched 11 feet in the broad jump and a 36-inch vertical.

Stanford Samuels, CB/S, Florida State
Stanford Samuels really struggled at the combine, and he may have to move to safety as a result. He ran a slow 4.65 40 and didn’t do any of the other testing drills.

L’Jarius Sneed, S, Louisiana Tech
L’Jarius Sneed put himself on the map with some stellar tests at the combine. He torched the 40 with a 4.37 despite being 6-0, 192. He also hit 41 inches in the vertical and 10-11 in the broad jump.

A.J. Terrell, CB, Clemson
A.J. Terrell was one of the big winners in the drills, as he looked very smooth. Terrell was also great in the tests, as he ran a 4.42 40 and hit a broad jump of 10-9.

Antoine Winfield Jr., S, Minnesota
Antoine Winfield Jr. dominated the drills, which was hardly a surprise. He also thrived in the 40 (4.45), vertical (36 inches) and broad jump (10-4). He could sneak into the first round following his showing in Indianapolis.
