Eugene Monroe Profile

Strengths: Great frame with long arms, great lower body strength, and room to add bulk … Highly athletic … Displays great footwork in pass protection … Quick kick step; gets set quickly … Shows good posture in pass protection; does not overextend at the waist … Knows how to counter pass rush moves; good hands … Explosive athleticism to recover when beat … Nice mobility to get to the second level … Displays good awareness of stunts and blitzes … Very high upside and should start at left tackle immediately.

Weaknesses: Does not show much tenacity in the running game … Needs to do a better job of getting low in run blocking … Could stand to put on more upper body strength/bulk … Loses balance against the bull rush … Issues with false starts.

Summary: Monroe is a very talented left tackle prospect who will most likely be taken in the top 16 picks. He can fit every scheme and has a nice skill set. Remember, he’s the reason Brandon Albert played guard, and now he is the left tackle in Kansas City. Monroe is a blue-chip high school prospect who certainly lived up to the hype.

Player Comparison: Jammal Brown. Jamaal Brown is a very similar to Monroe in terms of size, and he possesses the great feet to man the blind side.
