Combine 40 Times: As I explained on Twitter (@walterfootball), the official Combine 40 times are incorrect, and they’ve been proven false via the NFL Network’s simul-cam.
For the 40 times, I use the NFL Network’s unofficial times, which are more accurate. NFL teams use their own timed 40s anyway, so the official 40s are meaningless.

A.J. Green, WR, Georgia – Scouting Report
Height: 6-4. Weight: 211.
Projected 40 Time: 4.48.
Combine 40 Time: 4.48.
Pro Day 40 Time: DNP.
Vertical: 34.5. Broad: 10-2. Hand: 9 1/4.
Projected Round (2011): Top 6 Pick.
3/23/11: A.J. Green had a great Pro Day. He didn’t run the 40, but caught every pass thrown his way. There was a scary moment when he tripped over a rope and a garbage can out of bounds, but he was OK.
2/20/11: Some have A.J. Green as the top prospect in the 2011 NFL Draft. He’s certainly in the conversation as the next Larry Fitzgerald or Calvin Johnson.
10/1/10: Green has served his four-game suspension by the NCAA, and he makes his debut this week against Colorado. Stay tuned…
3/31/10: Despite the downgrade at quarterback, A.J. Green did not suffer a dropoff in production. He caught 53 balls for 808 yards and six touchdowns in 10 games. With Julio Jones’ drop problems, Green is the No. 1 wideout in the 2011 class for now.
8/7/09: Like Julio Jones, A.J. Green humiliated SEC corners as a true freshman, collecting 56 catches for 963 yards and eight scores. There might be a dropoff with Matt Stafford gone, but there’s no denying Green’s talent.

Julio Jones, WR, Alabama – Scouting Report
Height: 6-3. Weight: 220.
Projected 40 Time: 4.50.
Combine 40 Time: 4.39.
Pro Day 40 Time: .
Vertical: 38.5. Broad: 11-3. Hand: 9 3/4.
Projected Round (2011): Top 10 Pick.
2/28/11: Julio Jones blew up the Combine. Prior to Jones’ 40, Mike Mayock predicted that the 6-3, 220-pound Alabama wideout would run a low 4.5. Jones responded with a 4.39. He later notched a 38.5-inch vertical and an 11-foot-3 broad jump. Jones now has Twitter nation speculating that there’s a new No. 1 receiver. It’s still A.J. Green, but Jones narrowed the gap. There’s no way he makes it to the Rams at No. 14.
2/20/11: Playing hurt and not dropping passes late in the year really helped Julio Jones; he could go as high as No. 10 to Washington.
10/1/10: We have seen too much inconsistency in Jones’ game to say he is locked into the first round. He doesn’t always come out very sharply out of his routes, drops catchable passes and tends to lose focus.
3/31/10: Caught only 43 passes for 596 yards and four touchdowns in 2009. Struggled with drops.
8/7/09: The top receiving prospect we’ve seen since Calvin Johnson, Julio Jones has a shot at being drafted first overall. Running pro routes, Jones dominated the SEC as a true freshman, garnering 58 receptions for 924 yards and four touchdowns.

Randall Cobb, WR/PR, Kentucky
Height: 5-10. Weight: 191.
Projected 40 Time: 4.43.
Combine 40 Time: 4.45.
Pro Day 40 Time: DNP.
Vertical: 33.5. Broad: 9-7. Hand: 9 3/8.
Projected Round (2011): 1-2.
3/21/11: Randall Cobb stood on his Combine numbers. He worked out with the Bengals, Jets and Panthers at his Pro Day.
7/27/10: An all-purpose player like Dexter McCluster, Randall Cobb caught 39 passes for 447 yards, and also rushed for 573 yards, scoring 14 total touchdowns. To top it off, he averaged 12.8 yards per punt return.
-
Torrey Smith, WR/KR, Maryland – Scouting Report
Height: 6-1. Weight: 204.
Projected 40 Time: 4.41.
Combine 40 Time: 4.37.
Pro Day 40 Time: DNP.
Vertical: 41. Broad: 10-6. Hand: 8 5/8.
Projected Round (2011): 2.
3/17/11: Torrey Smith didn’t run the 40 at his Pro Day, but the important thing is that he didn’t drop any passes in the drills. Smith has tiny hands, but general managers could warm up to taking him at the end of the first round if they’re confident that he won’t drop many balls.
2/28/11: Torrey Smith’s microscopic 8 5/8-inch hands are a concern, but he showed us Sunday why he’s a legitimate first-round prospect. The 6-1, 204-pound Smith ran a 4.37. He also notched a 41-inch vertical and a 10-foot-6 broad jump.
2/20/11: Torry Smith had a tremendous junior year, and is now a candidate to go in the first round (perhaps to Atlanta).
7/27/10: Torrey Smith had a great sophomore campaign, catching 61 balls for 828 yards and five touchdowns. He also scored twice on kick returns.

Jonathan Baldwin, WR, Pittsburgh – Scouting Report
Height: 6-4. Weight: 228.
Projected 40 Time: 4.50.
Combine 40 Time: 4.45.
Pro Day 40 Time: .
Vertical: 42. Broad: 10-9. Hand: 10 1/8.
Projected Round (2011): 2.
3/17/11: Jonathan Baldwin caught every pass at his Pro Day (he also stood on his Combine numbers), but looked stiff and tight in the drills. The Sporting News even went as far to say that Baldwin going in the first round is “crazy talk.”
2/28/11: Jonathan Baldwin ran a great 40 (4.45) considering his massive frame (6-4, 228). He also posted a 42-inch vertical and a 10-foot-9 broad jump. Concerns remain about Baldwin’s attitude, but there’s no questioning his physical ability.
10/1/10: Pittsburgh elected not to throw at cornerback Brandon Harris as everyone else has done this season in Baldwin’s matchup against the first-rounder for Miami. Baldwin has been very consistent this season catching the football and looks like a huge possession receiver at the next level.
3/31/10: Believe it or not, but there are other receivers in this 2011 NFL Draft class besides Julio Jones, Michael Floyd and A.J. Green. Jonathan Baldwin, at 6-5, 225, caught 57 balls for 1,111 yards and eight touchdowns as a sophomore in 2009.
-
Leonard Hankerson, WR, Miami – Scouting Report
Height: 6-2. Weight: 209.
Projected 40 Time: 4.54.
Combine 40 Time: 4.45.
Pro Day 40 Time: .
Vertical: 36. Broad: . Hand: 10 5/8.
Projected Round (2011): 2-3.
3/27/11: Leonard Hankerson had a good Pro Day workout. He’s had an excellent draft offseason after a mediocre year. Mike Mayock said that Hankerson “scares the hell out of me.”
1/30/11: Leonard Hankerson was the best offensive player on the field in the Senior Bowl. He made numerous outstanding catches, including a 49-yarder where he made a great adjustment on Christian Ponder’s severely underthrown pass. Hankerson has a shot to go in the bottom of the first round if he has a good Combine.
1/26/11: Leonard Hankerson is having a solid Senior Bowl. He’s shown improvement in his route-running and catching ability. Monday’s hand measurement helps too.
1/25/11: Leonard Hankerson measured in an inch shorter than he was listed at Maimi, but his 10 5/8-inch hands are unbelievable. Outside of Vincent Brown, no one else had larger than 10-inch hands at the Senior Bowl.
10/1/10: Hankerson’s hands are a little inconsistent, but he has shown the ability to make the acrobatic catch as well. If he becomes more consistent he could sneak into the second round. Hankerson has 241 receiving yards and three touchdowns through his first three games this season.
3/31/10: Compiled 45 receptions, 801 yards and six touchdowns as a junior.
-
Titus Young, WR, Boise State – Scouting Report
Height: 5-11. Weight: 174.
Projected 40 Time: 4.39.
Combine 40 Time: 4.43.
Pro Day 40 Time: 4.42.
Vertical: 35. Broad: 10-3. Hand: 9.
Projected Round (2011): 2-3.
3/25/11: Titus Young improved his 40 by a hundreth of a second and posted a 35-inch vertical at his Pro Day. He solidified his mid-Day 2 status.
2/28/11: Titus Young has been called a “poor man’s DeSean Jackson.” Jackson ran a 4.31 at the 2008 NFL Combine. Young managed just a 4.43 on Sunday. He’s still a very good prospect, but his chances of going in the first round have pretty much diminished.
1/26/11: Titus Young had a great first day of Senior Bowl practice. Would he go on to disappoint the day after? Definitely not. Young once again impressed, this time showing off his route-running ability. I wonder where he’ll be in Thursday’s 2011 NFL Mock Draft update…
1/25/11: Wow. I don’t want to overreact to one day of practice, but it’s going to be difficult not to. Titus Young was breath-taking on the practice field, blowing by defensive backs at will and breaking ankles with deadly jukes. He looks like a hybrid between DeSean Jackson and Mike Wallace.
10/1/10: Young is a smaller receiver, but he has nice speed and is a very sharp route runner. Young has 15 catches for 310 yards and two touchdowns on the year including a five-catch, 136-yard performance against Oregon State.
3/31/10: Needs to bulk up his rail-thin frame. Caught 79 passes for 1,041 yards and 10 touchdowns as a junior.
-
Jerrel Jernigan, WR/KR, Troy
Height: 5-9. Weight: 185.
Projected 40 Time: 4.39.
Combine 40 Time: 4.47.
Pro Day 40 Time: 4.32.
Vertical: 38. Broad: 10-4. Hand: 9 1/4.
Projected Round (2011): 2-3.
3/5/11: Jerrel Jernigan was the only player of note at Troy’s Pro Day. Jernigan really shined, running two 40s of 4.32 and 4.38. He also improved his vertical leap by half an inch. CBS’ Rob Rang compares Jernigan to Deion Branch, citing Jernigan’s ability to “shift gears and explode through traffic with a rare burst.” With this great workout, Jernigan increased his chances of going in Round 2.
10/1/10: Jernigan is an athletic player in the open field. He has 31 catches for 384 yards and two touchdowns on the year, but 209 of his receiving yards came against Arkansas State.
3/31/10: Had a big year for Troy, catching 71 balls for 1,101 yards and four touchdowns. Also averaged 23 yards on kickoff returns.
-
Greg Little, WR, North Carolina
Height: 6-3. Weight: 231.
Projected 40 Time: 4.55.
Combine 40 Time: 4.56.
Pro Day 40 Time: 4.53.
Vertical: 40.5. Broad: 10-9. Hand: 9 1/8.
Projected Round (2011): 2-4.
4/1/11: Greg Little has been drawing rave reviews lately. He’d be a sure-fire second-round prospect if it weren’t for the character concerns.
2/28/11: Sports Illustrated has reported that Greg Little has been “less than honest” during the Combine interviews – “and that’s putting it nicely.” SI speculates that Little could go undrafted, but I’m not buying that. He’s too talented. Some team that doesn’t care about character concerns (Bengals) will take him in the later rounds.
10/1/10: Senior WR Greg Little is out indefinitely with an NCAA eligibility issue. He has a lot of upside and is physically a better prospect than Brandon Tate.
3/31/10: Greg Little managed 62 receptions, 724 yards and five touchdowns as a junior in 2009.
-
Edmond Gates, WR, Abilene Christian
Height: 6-0. Weight: 189.
Projected 40 Time: 4.46.
Combine 40 Time: 4.35.
Pro Day 40 Time: DNP.
Vertical: 40. Broad: 11-2. Hand: 9 5/8.
Projected Round (2011): 3-4.
3/22/11: Edmond Gates parlayed his great Combine into an incredible Pro Day. He notched an 11-2 broad jump and looked terrific in the drills in front of 22 teams. Gil Brandt believes that Gates will be drafted in the third round.
2/28/11: Edmond Gates had a very impressive Combine, running a 4.35 40 at 6-0, 192 and notching a 10-foot-11 broad jump.
-
Tandon Doss, WR, Indiana
Height: 6-2. Weight: 201.
Projected 40 Time: 4.52.
Combine 40 Time: DNP.
Pro Day 40 Time: 4.62.
Vertical: 32.5. Broad: 9-8. Hand: 10 1/8.
Projected Round (2011): 3-4.
4/7/11: The bad news is that Tandon Doss timed poorly at his Pro Day (4.62) thanks to an injured hip. The good news is that he looked good in the drills; he caught every single pass thrown his way.
3/20/11: Tandon Doss didn’t do anything at his Pro Day because of a groin injury. He’ll have a workout on April 6.
7/27/10: Tandon Doss collected 77 receptions for 962 yards and five touchdowns as a sophomore. He returned kickoffs as well, but wasn’t very effective in doing so.
-
Greg Salas, WR, Hawaii
Height: 6-1. Weight: 206.
Projected 40 Time: 4.60.
Combine 40 Time: .
Pro Day 40 Time: .
Vertical: . Broad: . Hand: 9 1/4.
Projected Round (2011): 3-5.
4/3/11: Greg Salas stood on his Combine numbers at Hawaii’s Pro Day. He worked out in front of 30 teams, including Ted Thompson and Hue Jackson.
1/27/10: As forum member Mycarman called him, “The Hawaiian Salsa Guy,” Greg Salas really showed off his great hands during Senior Bowl practice. He’s solidified his status as a Round 3-4 slot receiver.
3/31/10: We’re used to seeing big numbers from Hawaii receivers – Greg Salas collected 106 receptions, 1,590 yards and eight touchdowns in 2009.
-
Denarius Moore, WR, Tennessee
Height: 6-0. Weight: 194.
Projected 40 Time: 4.52.
Combine 40 Time: 4.37.
Pro Day 40 Time: .
Vertical: 36. Broad: 9-10. Hand: 9 1/2.
Projected Round (2011): 3-5.
-
Niles Paul, WR/KR/PR, Nebraska
Height: 6-1. Weight: 225.
Projected 40 Time: 4.52.
Combine 40 Time: 4.59.
Pro Day 40 Time: 4.42.
Vertical: 36. Broad: 9-9. Hand: 8 7/8.
Projected Round (2011): 3-5.
3/11/11: Niles Paul had a miserable Combine 40, so his 4.42 really helps. He also improved his vertical from 34.5 to 36 inches.
1/25/11: Niles Paul’s hands measured in at 8 5/8 inches. As a reference, no receiver at the Senior Bowl had smaller than 9-inch hands. On the bright side, if Paul fails in the NFL, he can always get a job at the circus. Come see the man with freakishly small hands!
3/31/10: Niles Paul managed 40 receptions, 796 yards and four touchdowns as a junior. His kickoff (27.9) and punt return (10.7) averages were both impressive.
-
Austin Pettis, WR, Boise State
Height: 6-3. Weight: 209.
Projected 40 Time: 4.56.
Combine 40 Time: 4.56.
Pro Day 40 Time: DNP.
Vertical: 33.5. Broad: 10-0. Hand: 10.
Projected Round (2011): 3-5.
3/25/11: Austin Pettis didn’t run at his Pro Day, opting only to work out in the drills. One of his catches was an impressive sliding grab near the sideline.
10/1/10: Pettis made a name for himself against Virginia Tech going for six catches for 73 yards and two touchdowns. He has very consistent, soft hands and uses his big frame to his advantage. However, he lacks great athleticism and speed to be a huge vertical threat at the next level.
3/31/10: Had a big junior campaign for Boise State, catching 63 balls for 855 yards and 14 touchdowns.
-
Vincent Brown, WR, San Diego State
Height: 5-11. Weight: 187.
Projected 40 Time: 4.50.
Combine 40 Time: 4.66.
Pro Day 40 Time: 4.57.
Vertical: 36. Broad: 10-1. Hand: 10 1/2.
Projected Round (2011): 4-6.
4/3/11: Vincent Brown dropped a tenth off his 40 at San Diego State’s Pro Day. This is huge because Brown’s 4.66 was a big concern. He also had a 36-inch vertical. He has great hands.
2/28/11: “Vincent… Brown… is a… terrible… playa…” Brown ran a very disappointing 4.66 40 at the Combine on Sunday.
1/25/11: Vincent Brown showed off his great hands Monday, making several impressive catches. Brown averaged 19.6 yards per reception this year. He might draw some late Round 3 consideration.
3/31/10: Vincent Brown hauled in 45 receptions, 778 yards and six touchdowns in 2009. All of this was in seven games – he missed time with a thumb injury.
-
Cecil Shorts III, WR, Mount Union
Height: 6-0. Weight: 193.
Projected 40 Time: 4.45.
Combine 40 Time: 4.53.
Pro Day 40 Time: 4.50.
Vertical: 34.5. Broad: 9-6. Hand: 9 1/4.
Projected Round (2011): 4-6.
3/19/11: Cecil Shorts somehow dropped 13 pounds since the Combine – please alert Rosie O’Donnell how to do this – but it only helped his 40 by .03 seconds. He did not work out because of the rain.
3/31/10: Another great year for Cecil Shorts III – 90 catches, 1,551 yards and 17 scores.
8/7/09: Aside from having one of the coolest names in this draft class, Cecil Shorts III registered 77 receptions for 1,484 yards and 23 touchdowns in 2008.
-
Terrance Toliver, WR, LSU
Height: 6-4. Weight: 211.
Projected 40 Time: 4.54.
Combine 40 Time: 4.52.
Pro Day 40 Time: 4.54.
Vertical: 33.5. Broad: 10-2. Hand: 10.
Projected Round (2011): 4-6.
3/15/11: Terrance Toliver pulled a hamstring when he ran his Pro Day 40, but still managed to look terrific in the drills.
3/31/10: Terrance Toliver really improved as a junior, catching 53 passes for 735 yards and three scores.
-
Jeremy Kerley, WR/PR, TCU
Height: 5-10. Weight: 185.
Projected 40 Time: 4.54.
Combine 40 Time: 4.59.
Pro Day 40 Time: 4.59.
Vertical: 37. Broad: 10-2. Hand: 9 1/8.
Projected Round (2011): 4-6.
3/12/11: Jeremy Kerley ran the same 40 he had at the Combine, but improved his vertical (34.5 at the Combine) and broad jump (10-0 at the Combine).
1/26/11: Outside of Leonard Hankerson, Jeremy Kerley was the most impressive receiver at the South Team practice. On one occasion, Kerley made a great adjustment on a poorly thrown ball to make the reception.
3/31/10: In addition to his great punt returning (14.4 average, 2 TDs), Jeremy Kerley caught 44 balls for 532 yards.
8/7/09: Strictly a punt-returner; Jeremy Kerley averaged 13.4 yards per return as a sophomore.
-
Dwayne Harris, WR/KR, East Carolina
Height: 5-10. Weight: 203.
Projected 40 Time: 4.52.
Combine 40 Time: 4.56.
Pro Day 40 Time: .
Vertical: 34. Broad: . Hand: 10 1/8.
Projected Round (2011): 4-6.
10/1/10: Harris is one of the more underrated receiving prospects in the country. He’s a very polished, competitive player who doesn’t go down easy once the ball is in his hands. Harris has notched 23 catches for 294 yards and four touchdowns this year for the ECU Pirates.
3/31/10: The 83 catches for 978 yards and seven touchdowns are nice. The three scores on kick returns are better.
-
Ronald Johnson, WR/KR, USC
Height: 5-11. Weight: 199.
Projected 40 Time: 4.44.
Combine 40 Time: 4.51.
Pro Day 40 Time: 4.49.
Vertical: . Broad: . Hand: 9 1/4.
Projected Round (2011): 4-6.
10/1/10: Johnson is more athletic than Damian Williams showcasing very impressive speed and athleticism, but he needs to step up his production. Check out his punt returnfor a touchdown against Hawaii showing his suddenness and elite second burst to blow by Hawaii’s coverage unit.
3/31/10: Played eight games because of a collarbone injury; caught 34 passes for 378 yards.
8/7/09: As a sophomore, Ronald Johnson caught just 33 passes, but turned that into 570 yards and eight touchdowns. Johnson also happens to be a very effective kick-returner.
-
Stephen Burton, WR, West Texas A&M
Height: 6-1. Weight: 224.
Projected 40 Time: N/A.
Combine 40 Time: 4.50.
Pro Day 40 Time: 4.38.
Vertical: 35. Broad: 10-4. Hand: 9 1/8.
Projected Round (2011): 4-6.
3/13/11: Stephen Burton had one of the most impressive Pro Day performances thus far in this draft season. Burton ran a 4.38 at 6-1, 224. His 10-yard split was an incredible 1.46. He’s a mid-round sleeper.
-
Ricardo Lockette, WR, Fort Valley State
Height: 6-2. Weight: 211.
Projected 40 Time: 4.38.
Combine 40 Time: 4.34.
Pro Day 40 Time: DNP.
Vertical: 39. Broad: 10-7. Hand: .
Projected Round (2011): 5-7.
-
Ryan Whalen, WR, Stanford
Height: 6-1. Weight: 202.
Projected 40 Time: 4.54.
Combine 40 Time: 4.59.
Pro Day 40 Time: DNP.
Vertical: 38.5. Broad: 10-3. Hand: 9.
Projected Round (2011): 5-7.
3/31/10: Ryan Whalen notched 57 receptions, 926 yards and four touchdowns in 2009.
-
Dane Sanzenbacher, WR, Ohio State
Height: 5-11. Weight: 182.
Projected 40 Time: 4.61.
Combine 40 Time: 4.55.
Pro Day 40 Time: 4.52.
Vertical: 33.5. Broad: 9-10. Hand: 8 1/4.
Projected Round (2011): 5-7.
3/31/10: Snagged 35 receptions, 563 yards and six touchdowns as a junior.
-
Tori Gurley, WR, South Carolina
Height: 6-4. Weight: 216.
Projected 40 Time: 4.59.
Combine 40 Time: 4.59.
Pro Day 40 Time: .
Vertical: 33.5. Broad: . Hand: 9 3/4.
Projected Round (2011): 5-7.
-
Aldrick Robinson, WR, SMU
Height: 5-10. Weight: 182.
Projected 40 Time: 4.40.
Combine 40 Time: 4.41.
Pro Day 40 Time: DNP.
Vertical: 40. Broad: 10-6. Hand: 8 3/4.
Projected Round (2011): 5-7.
4/5/11: Aldrick Robinson stood on his Combine numbers in front of 17 teams at SMU’s Pro Day.
3/31/10: Caught 47 passes for 800 yards and five scores.
8/7/09: Aldrick Robinson has a nice 40 and has put up pretty stats (59 receptions, 1,047 yards in 2008), but he plays in a gimmick offense. Robinson was also suspended by his head coach last year.
-
Jeff Maehl, WR, Oregon
Height: 6-1. Weight: 189.
Projected 40 Time: 4.58.
Combine 40 Time: 4.62.
Pro Day 40 Time: 4.65.
Vertical: 33.5. Broad: 10-1. Hand: 9 1/8.
Projected Round (2011): 5-7.
3/11/11: The highlight of Jeff Maehl’s Pro Day was a 10-foot-1 broad jump. Unfortunately, Maehl ran a worse 40 and couldn’t complete the 3-cone drill because he kept falling down. Maehl is a late-round possession receiver at best. I like him because he’s a high-effort guy, but I’m not sure he can separate from coverage.
-
Darvin Adams, WR, Auburn
Height: 6-2. Weight: 190.
Projected 40 Time: 4.49.
Combine 40 Time: 4.52.
Pro Day 40 Time: .
Vertical: . Broad: . Hand: 9 1/4.
Projecte (2012): 5-7.
-
Courtney Smith, WR, Southern Alabama
Height: 6-4. Weight: 223.
Projected 40 Time: 4.57.
Combine 40 Time: DNP.
Pro Day 40 Time: 4.65.
Vertical: 32. Broad: 9-8. Hand: 9 1/2.
