2015 Senior Bowl: Tuesday Rumor Mill

By Charlie Campbell - @draftcampbell

With all the general managers, coaches and scouts in attendance for the Senior Bowl there is a lot of chatter going around. Here are some of the highlights from the rumormill on day two.

  • There are quite a few teams eager to see Colorado State quarterback Garrett Grayson. Sources from one of the top teams in the NFC that selected a franchise quarterback outside of the top 20 and is one of the best at evaluating and developing quarterbacks, told me during Grayson's final game that he was the favorite to be their third-rated quarterback behind Jameis Winston and Marcus Mariota.

Sources say that one team that is interested in getting an eye on Grayson is the Broncos. If Peyton Manning doesn't come back for the 2015 season, Denver will want a quarterback to compete with Brock Osweiler, and Grayson could be in play for the Broncos in the second or third round. Grayson has displayed a strong arm, field vision to work through progressions, experience in a pro style system, and athleticism. Numerous league contacts have said that Grayson could be this year's quarterback prospect who rises and may end up being a Jimmy Garappolo-type prospect. If that's the case, the Broncos taking Grayson in Round 2 would mirror New England drafting Garappolo.

  • Many quarterbacks entering the NFL are itching to get on the field as soon as possible and become the starter. Grayson is an exception, as he has told teams he is happy to learn behind an established starter. He has said that he would love to sit behind a franchise quarterback and learn for a few years similar to Aaron Rodgers and Brett Favre in Green Bay. There have been repeated rumors that New Orleans is targeting a quarterback early in the 2015 NFL Draft, so Grayson could be a fit for the Saints in learning behind their future Hall of Famer.

  • Staff with multiple teams and agents agree that if Lions defensive tackle Ndamukong Suh hits free agency, he is going to land a massive contract that will go down in NFL history. Sources say that even though Suh doesn't deserve it, he will probably get a contract bigger than the Texans' J.J. Watt. Suh will have a number of teams with a huge amount of cap space targeting him, including the Raiders.

  • Considering what Watt did after that extension, it looks like Houston got a huge discount compared to what they would have had to pay Watt later on and if he hit the open market. A few sources said that Watt's contract could be one of the best $100 million contracts in league history, and those contracts will become more prevalent in the years to come.

  • Florida State defensive lineman Mario Edwards Jr. didn't produce comparably to the hype he received entering his junior year, but sources say his athletic skill set could be enough to make him a first-round pick. Edwards has a rare combination of power, speed and athleticism. His NFL future is probably inside at defensive tackle. Scouts say that Edwards should go higher than former teammate Timmy Jernigan because Edwards is a better athlete. Teams think that Edwards stands a good chance of going in the first round.

  • While the Rams are playing things close to the vest, staff from teams all around the league believe the Rams are moving back to Los Angeles in the near future. There are rumors that the organization is telling staffers they may want to hold off on buying homes in the St. Louis area in case a move to Los Angeles becomes a reality.
