Some Teams Think Gonzalez and Porter Jr. Could Go Top 10

Yesterday in the Hot Press, we discussed how multiple teams with top-10 picks have Illinois cornerback Devon Witherspoon graded as a mid-first-rounder for the 2023 NFL Draft. With cornerback being a premium position, teams will always look to upgrade their pass coverage, and there are cornerback-needy teams picking in the top 10. Team sources shared with WalterFootball.com that they believe the corners who have a shot at going as top-10 selection in the 2023 NFL Draft are Oregon’s Christian Gonzalez and Penn State’s Joey Porter Jr.
A year ago at this time, there were two star cornerbacks in LSU’s Derek Stingley Jr. and Cincinnati’s Ahmad ‘Sauce’ Gardner. Those two ended up being top-five picks and were regarded as elite cornerback prospects. Based on their respective tape, multiple sources say that they don’t see Porter and Gonzalez as top-10 picks who are of the caliber of Stingley or Gardner. However, they say they believe Gonzalez and Porter could rise during the workout portion of the draft process and each have a shot as going as a top-10 pick. Both of them have the size and speed to impress in the workouts.
The combine, pro day, and private workouts are going to be very important for them, but with the number of cornerback-needy teams, both Gonzalez and Porter have could end up as top-10 selections during the 2023 NFL Draft.
