2010 NFL Draft E-mails – Bucky and the Browns

  • From Cesar D.:

Lots of news-worthy remarks today from Mangini and Mayhew down in Orlando about the No. 2 pick. Mangini said they would consider moving up and Mayhew said he’s been in talk with at least one team about moving down. At least according to Mlive.com.

Would that make too much sense? The Browns moving up for Clausen after Holmgren came out and said he wished he liked Clausen more (smokescreen maybe?) and if that were to happen how big an impact would that be on the draft? Do the Lions go BPA and take Berry if he’s there or do they go with an OT still?

–> Lots of smokescreens going on. I would bet against a trade like this happening, only because it’s been made this public and Chris Mortensen reported it.

The Browns do have the money to make this sort of move though.

To make this trade right per the Trade Value Chart, the Browns would have to trade this year’s 2nd- and 3rd-round picks, as well as next year’s 2nd-round pick.

I think it’s worth it if you can get a franchise quarterback like Jimmy Clausen. The Lions could probably get Eric Berry (or at the very worst, Trent Williams) at No. 7. The Lions love to go BPA, so I think the pick would be Berry over Williams unless they loved Williams a whole lot.

  • From Rob S.:

Don’t know if you follow Chris Mortensen on twitter, but if you don’t, here’s what I just read from him:

“Hearing Browns interest in Colt McCoy is real – either w/2nd round pick or package picks to move into bottom of 1st rd. Don’t rule it out.”

I know this is the bulls*** season of the year, but if someone is feeding Mort true information… seriously, what is wrong with these teams? How can people who make six or seven figures to do this stuff be so bad at it?

–> I doubt this is anything legitimate. I mean, if Mort went on ESPN and reported, “Hearing what scientists are saying – the sky is blue and the grass is green,” I would think, “Man, the sky must be purple and the grass has to be red, right?”

Mort is usually wrong about things, so this is great news for Browns fans. Drafting Colt McCoy would be a disaster.

I don’t see why the Browns would disclose their draft plans to anyone. This obvious is a smokescreen. At least I hope so for the sake of Browns fans.

  • From Alex F.:

Mike Holmgren and the Browns think that Colt McCoy is the top QB in the draft and would considering TRADING UP?? To get him.

–> Congratulations, Cleveland! You’ve just landed a shorter version of Kyle Orton!

In all seriousness, I doubt this is true. Then again, the Browns did just pay Jake Delhomme $7 million…

  • From Tim R.:

I’m a Browns fan praying that Clausen either falls to No. 7 (and Holmgren is lying about wanting Clausen) or we trade up for him. I was reading NFL.com and came across an article discussing Clausen, and Bucky Brooks mentions that Clausen’s arm strength and accuracy are his biggest issues. WTF? Where are they getting these issues from?

–> You can’t take anything that Bucky Brooks says seriously. This is a guy who had Sam Bradford at No. 26 in his 2010 NFL Mock Draft. He also has Ndamukong Suh going No. 8 to the Raiders. Bucky Brooks clearly has no idea what he’s talking about.

If there’s one thing we’ve learned from Bucky, it’s “don’t drink and mock draft.”

  • From Steven L. (via Facebook):

So in Bucky Brooks’ Mock 2.0, he had Ndamukong Suh No. 1 and Sam Bradford No. 26, and now he has Bradford No. 1 and Suh No. 8. He’s not only one of the most moronic mock drafters I’ve ever seen, but also the least consistent.

Do you ever look at his mocks and wonder why he works for NFL.com, and guys like you and all these other mock drafters out there don’t?

–> I’m now convinced Bucky picks random names out of hat when he compiles a mock. Excluding heavy drinking and drug usage, there is no other logical explanation for his mocks.

It’s at the point now where if NFL.com asked me to work for them, I would be offended and ask, “Do you honestly think I suck as much as Bucky Brooks?”
