2010 NFL Draft E-mails – AFC South and East

  • From Many Billy V:

I don’t know how the Texans could have missed that badly. I knew they were weak (at best) at judging talent but now I am leaning toward clueless. They had Kyle Wilson sitting on their doorstep and blew the pick as far as I’m concerned. With their “do nothing” attitude this offseason and bad start to the draft I am starting to think, maybe they don’t have a shot at the playoffs this year.

Insanity: Doing the same thing the same way and expecting a different result. (See Texans Football)

–> Maybe the Texans had Kareem Jackson rated higher than Kyle Wilson all along. I like the pick – Jackson’s a good prospect and fills a need. Houston might be one of my sleeper teams in 2010. Check back in July.

  • From Kenny C:

My friend was a Jags fan, but he says he’s now a Bronco fan because of Tebow.

–> I was brushing my teeth before bed last night when I randomly thought about the Alualu pick and burst out laughing. I’d say the city of Jacksonville would definitely miss Jaguar football when the team moves to Los Angeles, but no one goes to the games.

  • From Kevin G:

Seriously, man, who writes this stuff? Are you kidding me? How in the world do you know that Tyson Alualu wasn’t going to get picked by the Broncos or 49ers at #11? Were you in every teams war room? Did you see their value boards? Obviously the Jags would have traded down if they felt they got the proper value from another team. It’s clear that this was not the case and they stuck to their value board. Not Kiper’s value board, not yours, not anyone else’s, but theirs.

–> What do you want me to do, give every team an A or a B? If every single scouting service pegs a guy as a Round 2-3 prospect, how can you defend a team taking that guy at No. 10 overall? It’s a joke. Even if Alualu pans out it’s a bad value pick. If the Broncos traded down from 11, Jacksonville could have moved down from 10.

The Jaguars simply panicked because they were eying C.J. Spiller and Rolando McClain, both of whom went off the board at 8 or 9. It was like a fantasy draft when the two running backs you covet go off the board before you, and so you panic and make a dumb pick. That’s what Jacksonville did.

  • From Bryan S:

I’m a huge Jets fan and I don’t so much as hate the pick as I am confused. We have the best CB in the NFL with Revis, we just picked up Cromartie and we have Dwight Lowery who is a very solid nickel corner.

–> I really like the pick. You can never have enough good corners in today’s NFL, especially when you’re trying to beat the Colts. Antonio Cromartie is by no means a sure thing, and he only has one year left on his contract. I had the Jets going with a corner in my mock, so I thought they’d target the position.

  • From Multiple E-mailers:

Why did the Dolphins pick Jared Odrick? Where is he going to play?

–> I like Odrick being a Penn State alumnus, but the pick confused me. However, it makes more sense now. I’m hearing two things: One, Miami plans on using Odrick at nose tackle. Both Jay Ratliff and Jason Ferguson were relatively small when Parcells drafted them. And two, the Dolphins could use some more 4-3 looks based on their personnel.

  • From Mike N:

As a Bills fan, I must say that I’m quite disgusted with the Spiller pick. Nothing against Spiller, but selecting a running back over a NT, OT and Clausen is just asinine. The Bills didn’t even need another running back. Also, running backs tend to wear down by the age of 30 and I’m not a big fan of selecting one in the first round. They’re relatively easy to obtain and simple to replace. And the Bills wonder why they haven’t made the playoffs since 1999…

–> I would be disgusted with the Spiller pick as well. Three of the top players at that position – Chris Johnson, Frank Gore, Maurice Jones-Drew – didn’t make the playoffs. The Bills drafted as if we were in the 1970s or 1980s. Spiller’s a great player, but you don’t take a running back when you already have one and need lots of help at other more important positions.
