James Cook ran a 4.42 40, beating his brother Dalvin (4.49). More importantly, he was extremely smooth in the drills. He also looked good catching the football, which shouldn’t have been a surprise, given how many balls he caught in Georgia’s offense.

Tyler Goodson ran much faster than expected, given that Iowa used him as a between-the-tackles runner. He sprinted a 4.42 40 time. Goodson looked explosive, so he definitely helped his draft stock.

Breece Hall arguably had the best combine of any running back. He began with an electrifying 4.39 40, which was terrific when considering his 220-pound frame. He also notched a 40-inch vertical and a 10-6 broad jump. There’s a decent chance Hall will be the first running back off the board during the 2022 NFL Draft.

Isaiah Spiller didn’t run the 40, and he also tested poorly in the jumps, notching just 30 inches in the vertical and 9-6 in the broad. He didn’t look particularly great in the drills either.

Pierre Strong put together some great tape at South Dakota State, though competition was obviously a question. He may have answered that, at least a bit, with some explosive testing numbers. He ran a 4.39 40, and he also notched a 36-inch vertical and a 10-4 broad jump.

C.J. Verdell’s stock has really fallen since last year. He didn’t even run the 40 at the combine. He opted to do the vertical (29.5 inches) and broad jump (9-10), yet tested poorly in both of those.

Kenneth Walker was my personal favorite running back entering the draft process, but I didn’t know how he’d test athletically. Walker, as it turns out, passed with flying colors. He ran a 4.38 40, which was excellent considering his 210-pound frame. He also registered a 34-inch vertical and a 10-2 broad jump.

Rachaad White posted a solid 4.48 40 time, while his jumping numbers were even better. He recorded a 38-inch vertical and a 10-5 broad jump. He also looked good catching the ball in the drills.

Both Georgia running backs deserve up arrows. Zamir White sprinted a 4.40 40 time, which was a big plus considering his 215-pound frame. He also was terrific in the broad jump with a 10-8. White was also quite impressive in the field drills.
