2011 NFL Draft E-mails – Random NFC Questions and Comments
No way OG Danny Watkins goes at very end of 2nd round. He’s projected as a top 40 player.
–> Danny Watkins is the most polarizing non-quarterback in this class. Some e-mailers/commenters think he’s a top-40 player; others, including Blue in the forums, believe that there’s no way he’ll be taken in the first two rounds. I believe his true spot will be at the bottom of Round 2 to a team ready to win now. Watkins is 27 and can start right away. And contrary to popular belief, he has upside; he hasn’t played football for very long, so he’s still learning.
If the Lions take a friggin LT with their first pick or anyone on offense the Lions Fans in Detroit will collectively vomit all over themselves. Sacks weren’t the problem last year, the defense still was. Hell, they won with Hill and Stanton… who needs Stafford?
–> I’d say the No. 1 problem was Matthew Stafford’s injury. Detroit won six games last year. It would have won nine or 10 games with Matthew Stafford. The Lions have to protect their quarterback. I don’t know if they’ll go left tackle at No. 13, but if they like a blind-side protector enough to take him that high, they better draft him.
And please, Lions fans, don’t vomit all over yourselves.
The Falcons should draft these guys in rounds 1-5. Walt PLEASE give me some feedback. I would be forever grateful. 1. Torrey Smith or Titus Young if Smith is gone. 2. Sam Acho 3. Jerrell Jernigan (may have to trade up a few spots to get him) 4. Shane Vereen 5. Kris O’Dowd or best OT available
–> Looks like a great draft to me. The Falcons get offensive play-makers and a pass-rusher without reaching. I’d give that draft class an A+.
The Eagles “desperately need a corner.” True. Why would they wait until pick #103 to draft one? They tried that last year with Trevard Lindley. They will either sign a FA or draft a CB in round 1 or 2.
–> I believe they’ll go after Nnamdi Asomugha. But aside from Jimmy Smith in Round 1, I couldn’t give the Eagles a corner without having them reach or pass up a better prospect at another position of need. That’ll likely change, however, in a future update.
Why don’t scouts have Colin Kaepernick ranked higher? I think he has better mechanics than Blaine Gabbert, Jake Locker and Cam Newton; and he’s more athletic than Ryan Mallett. Plus, he has good intangibles and has beaten top ranked teams like Boise State.
–> Colin Kaepernick’s raw because he didn’t play in an NFL offense, so he may not be ready to start right away. Blaine Gabbert played in a pro system in high school, while Jake Locker was in a West Coast offense in Washington. However, it shouldn’t surprise anyone if Kaepernick emerges as the top quarterback in this class.
Pretty good mock, but some QB issues. First, the Cards are in desperate need of a QB (Hall and Skelton wont cut it) and no way the Dolphins would even think of a QB they already said they would committ to Henne.
–> The Dolphins never said they were going to commit to Chad Henne. And even if they did, that doesn’t mean much. If anything, that would be a ruse to mislead other teams. Why would they reveal their cards like that? As for Arizona, if they draft a quarterback at No. 5, they may as well clean out Larry Fitzgerald’s locker. They need a veteran signal-caller. That’s what Fitzgerald wants anyway.
