Defensive Backs

I continue to hear glowing reports on Keanu Neal. The Florida junior has been timing in the high 4.4s at 212 pounds and posted a vertical jump of 38 inches in training. He’s looked much better in combine training to this point than fellow junior Vonn Bell. The one red flag I’ve heard on Neal are constant hamstring issues that have plagued him, though sources tell me it’s a situation where Neal played through pain rather than ever letting the situation heal. I am starting to hear first-round grades on the safety and continually hear the names of the Arizona Cardinals and Pittsburgh Steelers as potential suitors in the first frame.

I am expecting some really fast times from the defensive backs, and it should be the fastest group of the combine.

Miami junior Artie Burns should break into the 4.2s in the forty and at the worst will be in the very low 4.3s.

Vernon Hargreaves of Florida may not be as fast as Burns, but I’ve been told for weeks he will “blow up the combine.” His testing numbers will include a 40 time in the low 4.3s, shuttle times that run sub four seconds and a 3-cone time under seven seconds.

Zach Sanchez should check in around 183 pounds, which is a good sign for the seemingly thin-bodied cornerback. When I asked about situations last season when Sanchez was beaten, especially deep, I was told he struggled with an ankle injury through much of the campaign.

Times in the mid 4.3s are expected from Cyrus Jones of Alabama.
