2013 NBA Draft Scouting Report: Nate Wolters


Position: Point Guard

Size: 6-4, 190

School: South Dakota State, Senior


Strengths:

Scoring ability

Three-point shooter

Pull-up jumper

Quick release

Effective in pick and roll situations

Moves well off the ball

Free throw shooting

Use of runners

Can create his own shot

Plays angles well off the glass

Good court vision

Rebounds well for his size

Typically plays at the proper pace, not forcing issues

Weaknesses:

Who does he guard at the next level?

Is he a point guard or shooting guard?

Athleticism

Explosiveness

Won’t blow by any defenders off the bounce

Needs to get stronger

Summary: As one of the top scorers in the nation, Nate Wolters is a terrific college basketball. However, there are a lot of questions as to how his game will translate to the next level since he doesn’t have a true position and isn’t an athletic wonder. Still, the guy knows how to score the basketball and will be good enough to land him a spot somewhere in the second round.

Player Comparison: Luke Ridnour. Despite lacking a great deal of athleticism, Ridnour has survived in the NBA as a crafty point guard and someone who can play off the ball and shoot the three ball. Wolters is very similar with his offensive abilities, but like Ridnour, will be a liability on the defensive end since he is neither quick enough to guard an NBA-level point nor physical or big enough to check a shooting guard.
