By Stefphon Jefferson, as told to Charlie Campbell – @draftcampbell

WalterFootball.com is proud to introduce our 2013 NFL Draft Diary with Nevada running back Stefphon Jefferson. Throughout the draft process, Stefphon will be sharing his experience with the readers of WalterFootball.com. He will hit on the team interviews, the NFL Scouting Combine, his pro day, pre-draft visits, and of course, his draft-day experience.
Jefferson finished second in the nation in rushing in 2012 with 1,883 yards. He led the country with 24 rushing touchdowns while averaging 5.02 yards per carry. He also was a factor in the passing game, chipping in 22 receptions for 170 yards and a touchdown. After his prolific season, Jefferson decided to enter the 2013 NFL Draft.

WalterFootball.com would like to thank Stefphon Jefferson for his participation. We would also like to thank Stefphon’s agent Kelli Masters of KMM Sports for helping to facilitate Stefphon’s draft diary. Jefferson and Masters are readers of WalterFootball.com, so it was a natural fit to approach them about having Stefphon’s draft diary here. We are thrilled to have Stefphon share his journey with all of you. Now, let’s allow Stefphon take over.

It really has been a great few weeks with some life changing experiences. The first event was my pro day. I trained hard for it and it was a lot of fun to be back in Nevada.

My pro day went pretty well. I went out there and gave it my best shot. There were 28 teams in attendance and it was a lot of fun going through the workouts with my teammates. It was really awesome to get to perform with your teammates. With them there at your home school facility it definitely had a more comfortable vibe. I was really relaxed and comfortable.

The Combine events I wanted to do over were the shuttle, 40 and the vertical. I improved on my vertical by an inch, so that was really good for me. They didn’t tell me the exact time of my 40 or shuttle, but I kept hearing in the 4.4s and 4.5s so I heard different times. I wasn’t too concerned about it.

For me the biggest thing was the position drills. I wanted to do well in those and I feel I did. I caught the ball really well, so I went out there and had fun with it.

Overall it was so much more relaxed than the Combine. You get to be with your teammates and I haven’t seen a lot of them for a long time. It made it fun to interact with them. I was more relaxed than I was nervous. We were having fun with everything we did. At every station we were chatting away talking about it with some jokes and having fun.

After the work out I spent a lot of time talking with the Vikings scout. He was the leader for the running backs at the Combine. We connected at the Combine and it was fun to catch up with him. We had a blast. We didn’t talk any football, just about life and it was really cool.

Now I’m doing a workout called cross-fit football to get ready for training camp and next season. It is lot of high intensity workout that puts you in game situational mode. It helps you to transition from the Combine, pro day work outs to football oriented preparation.

Outside of football I’ve been able to do some great things. I just got back from a mission trip to Haiti. Kelli took me and some of her clients there. It was an amazing experience to see the poverty there and see how much we take for granted in America. It was a great experience to help me get a whole new perspective on life.

In the morning we would do devotionals on the beach. After that we would go to a mission facility to help the kids out. We would serve them food and help build new parts of the facility. We also were able to plays some games and hang out with the kids. It was amazing to see how happy they are. They are so happy and yet they have nothing. It made me realize how spoiled we are. People in American are unhappy but they have so much more. It bothers me a little bit.

It was also fun to hang out with some of the other guys that came along. (Lions wide receiver) Ryan Broyles, his wife, Quinton Carter (Broncos safety), Ronnell Lewis (Lions linebacker) and Demontre Hurst (Oklahoma cornerback) were all there. I had a great time hanging out with them.

I definitely want to go back and do many more visits to help out down there. It was a great experience and gave us a whole new perspective.
