Carson Beck Prospect Preview

By Charlie Campbell

Career Recap:

With Stetson Bennett moving on to the NFL, Beck took over as the Bulldogs quarterback and had an impressive debut in 2023. After a bit of a slow start to 2023, Beck heated up for Georgia and showed serious ability for the next level. In 2023, Beck completed 72 percent of his passes for 3,941 yards, 24 touchdowns, and six interceptions. Georgia had an undefeated regular season before falling to Alabama in the SEC Championship Game.

2024 Season Outlook::

Beck is going to see a good schedule in 2024 that will present some quality challenges. The best games to watch him include Clemson (Aug. 31), Kentucky (Sep. 14), Alabama (Sep. 28), and Texas (Oct. 19).

Prospect Summary:

In the passing-driven NFL, teams are always looking for quarterbacks with size, arm talent, and pocket passing ability to be potential franchise quarterbacks. There is no doubt that Beck has the size and throwing ability to play at the pro level. That was evident in his first year as a starter at Georgia, and Beck could improve as he gains experience.

As a passer, Beck has a strong arm that is capable of making all the throws in the NFL. Beck can really spin the ball with easy arm strength to push the ball down the field. With easy power, Beck can drill the deep outs, throw deep, or fit a fastball through a tight window. Beck has a pro arm that is capable of beating good coverage from his pure throwing ability. Beck is generally an accurate passer who has above-average ball placement. Beck’s deep ball is impressive; not only can he get there, but he drops balls in with excellent timing and leads his receivers for more yardage. You don’t see the Georgia receivers slowing down or having to come back to underthrown passes. Along with having the arm to zip passes into tight windows, Beck can put air under the ball to drop in pretty passes. Many strong-armed quarterbacks can throw a flat ball, but Beck shows the ability to alter his passes to help his receivers. Beck is a dangerous deep ball thrower that will shred a defense vertically.

Beck is a pure pocket passer who will stand tall in the pocket, work through progressions, and is patient in letting routes develop. He has impressive poise and does not panic when his first read is not open immediately. While Beck is not a runner, he does pick his spots well to take off running if nothing is open, and he has enough ability with his feet to pick up some first downs in third-and-intermediate situations.

Like all college players, Beck has room for improvement in his second season as a starter. He could get faster at reading coverage and working through his progressions. He will never be a dual-threat quarterback at the pro level, but continuing to show the ability to buy time and pick up some yards on the ground will help him with pro evaluators.

If Beck picks up where he left off in 2023, he should emerge as a potential high pick and starting quarterback for the NFL.

2025 NFL Draft Expectations:

Entering the 2024 season, Beck looks like he has first-round potential for the 2025 NFL Draft.
