Strengths:

Athletic

Good quickness for a big blocker

Half an inch shorter than his listed height

Arms could be shorter than expected

Played better at guard than he did at tackle

Summary: Like safety and running back, guard in one of the positions that gets downgraded in NFL drafts. Many years, however, a guard sneaks into the late first round because playoffs team with good overall rosters are looking for a potential plug-and-play starter to help their offensive line. Texas A&M guard Kenyon Green could be that type of prospect for the 2022 NFL Draft. In speaking to sources at multiple teams, they see him as having late first-round or early second-round potential.

“I think Green goes late first, early second,” said an area scout during the 2021 season. “He’s a guard in the NFL. Has good size at 6-foot-3-and-half, good length, can get overextended at times, but solid overall football player.”



As a pass blocker, Green has quality feet and smooth athleticism for such a big lineman. He demonstrates the ability to use his feet to wall off speed rushers and get depth in his drop. Thanks to his rare agility for a big, thick blocker, Green is able to handle speed rushers coming off the edge. His size also leads to Green having a good anchor to stonewall bull rushes and keep them from pushing him back into the pocket. Green’s pass-protection skills looked better at guard compared to when he was forced to play tackle. For the NFL, he should be an asset at guard and might be able to play some tackle in an emergency.

Green can generate movement in the ground game, where he will lean on defenders, get within their frame, and then push and manipulate them. Green possesses the strength to blow defenders out of their gaps and open holes. As a run blocker, Green packs a punch off the line, sustains his blocks with strength, and moves defenders the direction he wants them to go consistently.

For the NFL, Green looks like a safe pick to turn into a solid starting guard in a zone-blocking or power-man scheme. Team sources value a player like Green at different places, but multiple NFL sources believe he will be a late first-round or early second-round pick in the 2022 NFL Draft.



Player Comparison: Davin Joseph. Green reminds me of a slightly better Joseph. Joseph (6-3, 313) went to multiple Pro Bowls after being a late first-round pick in the 2006 NFL Draft. I could see Green having a similar career in the NFL.
