With big name quarterback prospects like Tua Tagovailoa, Justin Herbert, Jake Fromm and now Joe Burrow getting all the headlines, some quality quarterbacks prospects for the NFL have emerged under the radar of the national media. One of those prospects who has broken out this year is Wake Forest’s Jamie Newman. There is a nice buzz about Newman in the scouting community about being a pro prospect, and right now, team sources think he could have second-day potential.

Team evaluators still think that it would be best for Newman’s pro development to go back to Wake Forest for his senior year. If he continues to improve, his stock could rise significantly for the 2021 NFL Draft, but it sounds, at the moment, like he could be a Day 2 pick if he were to enter the 2020 NFL Draft. Newman is a dual-threat quarterback with running and passing talent to challenge defenses. The 6-foot-4, 230-pounder has quality size with a live arm and athleticism.

In 2019, Newman has completed 65 percent of his passes for 2,297 yards with 22 touchdowns and seven interceptions. He also has five rushing touchdowns with 301 yards on the ground. In 2018, Newman completed 60 percent of his passes for 1,083 yards with nine touchdowns and four interceptions. Thus, Newman has shown a vast improvement from his sophomore to junior seasons. Newman has the Demon Deacons supporting a 7-2 record heading into their matchup with Clemson this Saturday. If he plays well against the defending National Champions, that also could send a jolt into his draft grade.

On top of getting a good buzz going about his skill set, higher-ranking team evaluators will make the time to watch Newman, and his draft stock could enter a quick climb if he wins over directors of college scouting and general managers. With this strong junior season, Newman has become a prospect on the rise who some sources think could end up being a NFL starter.
