2013 NBA Draft Scouting Report: Tony Snell

Position: Small Forward

Size: 6-7, 198

School: New Mexico, Junior

Strengths:
  • Athleticism
  • Length
  • Potential to be a lockdown defender
  • Can guard multiple positions
  • Capable 3-point shooter
  • Catch-and-shoot ability
  • Pull-up jumper
  • Free throw shooting

  • Weaknesses:
  • Defensive effort/awareness
  • Aggressiveness on the glass
  • Too often disappears on offense if shot isn’t falling
  • Strength
  • Tighten up ball handling

  • Summary: Snell’s decision to leave New Mexico after his junior season was somewhat surprising since he is not a first-round lock. Snell does possess many of the physical attributes to be a solid NBA small forward and because of that, will get plenty of second-round looks. There is a slim chance he could sneak into the first round.

Player Comparison: Landry Fields. Fields is a decent role player with ideal size and length to be a NBA small forward. Snell fits that mold as well and won’t be a starter at the next level like Fields, but can be an impact player off the bench.
