2018 NFL Free Agency: Star rating is out of five. Age listing as of Sept. 1, 2018.
Follow me @walterfootball for updates.

  1. Trey Burton, TE, Eagles. Age: 26.
Signed with Bears (4 years, $32 million)

Trey Burton is an extremely athletic tight end who could be a very potent weapon on another offense. He’s been stuck behind Zach Ertz in Philadelphia, but he proved how good he is when Ertz was concussed, catching five passes for 71 yards and two touchdowns against the Rams.

  2. Jimmy Graham, TE, Seahawks. Age: 31.
    Signed with Packers (3 years)

Perhaps suffering the lingering effects from his torn patellar tendon, Jimmy Graham regressed in 2017. He caught 10 touchdowns, but saw his yards per reception total drop from 14.2 to 9.1. He’s 31 now, so his best years are likely over.

  3. Austin Seferian-Jenkins, TE, Jets. Age: 25.
    Signed with Jaguars (2 years)

Austin Seferian-Jenkins, a second-round pick in 2014, had been a disappointment prior to this season, but he finally came alive and was dominant in some games. He’ll only be 26 in late September, so he has plenty of upside. However, he comes with some character and effort concerns.

  4. Tyler Eifert, TE, Bengals. Age: 27.
    Re-signed with Bengals (1 year)

Tyler Eifert is an extremely talented tight end, and he would be rated as a four-star player if there weren’t major health concerns. Unfortunately, Eifert has played in just 10 games the past two seasons, and he’s been very limited in many of those. With back issues, it’s fair to wonder if Eifert will ever be fully healthy again.

  5. Cameron Brate (RFA), TE, Buccaneers. Age: 27.
Re-signed with Buccaneers (6 years, $41 million; $18 million guaranteed)

It was disappointing that Cameron Brate failed to produce without Jameis Winston. That said, Brate is a nice end-zone weapon for Winston, and he also blocks well. He’s still young, only turning 27 in July.

  6. Martellus Bennett, TE, Patriots. Age: 31.
    Announced retirement

Martellus Bennett caught 55 passes for 701 yards and seven touchdowns in 2016, helping the Patriots win the Super Bowl. However, Bennett barely did anything in 2017 because of injuries. He’s now 31 and should continue to regress, but he could have another decent season or two remaining in the tank as long as he stays healthy.

  7. Eric Ebron, TE, Lions. Age: 25.
    Signed with Colts (2 years)

Eric Ebron is a minor bust from the 2014 NFL Draft. The 10th-overall pick, Ebron has posted decent numbers – 61 catches, 711 yards in 2016; 53 receptions, 574 yards in 2017 – but he’s been very inconsistent, as he’s hurt the Lions with untimely drops. That said, Ebron is still young (25 in April) and athletic enough to draw interest from numerous teams.

  8. Virgil Green, TE, Broncos. Age: 30.
    Signed with Chargers

Virgil Green has never caught more than 22 passes in a season, but that’s usually not his role; he’s a strong blocker.

  9. Antonio Gates, TE, Chargers. Age: 38.
    Re-signed with Chargers

Antonio Gates said he still wants to play in 2018, claiming that he still has the “juice.” Gates didn’t have much of a chance to do anything because of Hunter Henry, but he was solid when Henry got hurt. The old man still has some tricks up his sleeve.

  10. Ben Watson, TE, Ravens. Age: 37.
    Signed with Saints (1 year)

Ben Watson missed all of 2016, but bounced back this past season, catching 61 passes for 522 yards and four touchdowns. Unfortunately, he just turned 37, so he’ll continue to regress.

  11. Marcedes Lewis, TE, Jaguars. Age: 34.
    Signed with Packers

Marcedes Lewis is 34, and all of his receiving talent is gone, but he’s still a terrific blocker.

  12. Julius Thomas, TE, Dolphins. Age: 30.
  13. Ed Dickson, TE, Panthers. Age: 31. — Signed with Seahawks (3 years)
  14. Coby Fleener, TE, Saints. Age: 29.
  15. Troy Niklas, TE, Patriots. Age: 26.
  16. Sean McGrath (RFA), TE, Chargers. Age: 30.
  17. Niles Paul, TE, Redskins. Age: 29. — Signed with Jaguars
  18. Levine Toilolo, TE, Falcons. Age: 27.
  19. Derek Carrier, TE, Rams. Age: 28. — Signed with Raiders (3 years)
  20. Luke Willson, TE, Seahawks. Age: 28. — Signed with Lions
  21. Crockett Gillmore, TE, Ravens. Age: 26.
  22. Richard Rodgers, TE, Packers. Age: 26. — Signed with Eagles
  23. Logan Paulsen, TE, 49ers. Age: 31. — Signed with Falcons
  24. Brent Celek, TE, Eagles. Age: 33.
  25. Lee Smith, TE, Raiders. Age: 30. — Re-signed with Raiders
  26. Darren Fells, TE, Lions. Age: 32. — Signed with Browns
  27. Jeff Cumberland, TE, Chargers. Age: 31.
  28. Anthony Fasano, TE, Dolphins. Age: 34.

  29. John Phillips, TE, Saints. Age: 31.
  30. MyCole Pruitt (RFA), TE, Texans. Age: 26.
  31. Brandon Williams, TE, Colts. Age: 27.
  32. Ifeanyi Momah (RFA), TE, Cardinals. Age: 28.
  33. Clay Harbor, TE, Saints. Age: 31.
  34. Matt LaCosse (RFA), TE, Broncos. Age: 25.
  35. Scott Simonson (RFA), TE, Panthers. Age: 26.
  36. Zach Miller, TE, Bears. Age: 33.
