In keeping with a series looking ahead to 2019, I caught up with scouts who have done advance work on the 2019 class. While the majority of NFL scouting departments are meeting in the month of April to finish their draft boards ahead of the impending NFL Draft, some team scouts are on the road traveling to college campuses to start work on the draft that is a year away. These scouts share their player ratings with scouting services like National and Blesto. Almost every team in the NFL is either a member in National or Blesto, with more teams a part of National. In May, the Blesto teams, including the Bills, Giants, and Steelers, met in Florida to go over 2019 NFL Draft Prospects. In continuing the series, this week’s topic is Ohio State once again being loaded with NFL talent.

During training camp, NFL teams college scouting staffs have meetings to start the 2019 NFL Draft process. After watching practice and holding their planning meetings, the scouts will leave and start going to the college programs their assigned to start watching draft prospects in training camp practices. In speaking with team sources, Ohio State has the largest amount of prospects on teams’ shared preseason watch lists with nine prospects who had an initial projection of first- through fourth-round potential. Here are the nine Ohio State prospects on the teams’ preseason watch list:

  • Damon Arnette, CB
  • Nick Bosa, DE
  • Parris Campbell, WR
  • K.J. Hill, WR
  • Dre’Mont Jones, DT
  • Michael Jordan, G
  • Isaiah Prince, OT
  • Kendall Sheffield, CB
  • Mike Weber, RB

  • Of course, other Buckeyes will probably emerge and join these nine players as early-round candidates for the NFL. Under head coach Urban Meyer, Ohio State has sent a ton of talent to the NFL, and it looks like the 2019 NFL Draft is going to follow that trend as no school in the nation has as many players on team’s preseason watch lists.
