2017 NBA Mock Draft: Round 1


  1. Charlotte Hornets: Frank Jackson, PG, Duke, 6-3, Fr.
    With great size for the next level, Jackson has a terrific feel for the game and can shoot it from deep. There are some concerns about his foot injury though.


  2. Phoenix Suns: Isaiah Hartenstein, PF, USA, 6-11, 1998.
    Born in Oregon, Hartenstein grew up overseas in Germany. He is skilled for his size, but needs to become stronger.


  3. Orlando Magic: D.J. Wilson, F, Michigan, 6-10, Jr.
    Wilson was a late bloomer this past season and has a good combination of athleticism and versatility at the forward position.




  4. Sacramento Kings: Jaron Blossomgame, SF, Clemson, 6-7, Sr.
    The Tiger senior is a versatile wing who can guard multiple positions and also shoots it well from deep.


  5. Orlando Magic: Anzejs Pasecniks, C, Latvia, 7-1, 1995
    With four picks in the top 35, the Magic can go the draft-and-stash route.


  6. Philadelphia 76ers: Josh Hart, SG, Villanova, 6-5, Sr.
    Hart is a jack-of-all-trades-type wing player, though he lacks the ideal athleticism for an NBA wing.


  7. Boston Celtics: Tony Bradley, C, North Carolina, 6-11, Fr.
    Bradley is a skilled big man who didn’t get a ton of playing time coming off the bench at North Carolina, but with time, has the skillset and potential to be a solid five.




  8. Chicago Bulls: Wesley Iwundu, SF, Kansas State, 6-7, Sr.
    A versatile and athletic wing, Iwundu could find a role at the next level as a glue guy.


  9. Philadelphia 76ers: Kyle Kuzma, PF, Utah, 6-9, Jr.
    Kuzma is a versatile forward who can face up or play with his back to the basket.


  10. New Orleans Pelicans: Monte Morris, PG, Iowa State, 6-2, Sr.
    A terrific floor leader, Morris is a heady point guard who excels in the pick-and-roll game.




  11. Atlanta Hawks: P.J. Dozier, G, South Carolina, 6-7, Soph.
    Somewhat in the Michael Carter-Williams mold, Dozier is a lengthy point guard with terrific size.


  12. Utah Jazz:Alec Peters, PF, Valparaiso, 6-9, Sr.
    Peters is a pick-and-pop threat who could find his niche in the NBA due to his outside shooting.


  13. Houston Rockets: Jonathan Motley, PF, Baylor, 6-9, Jr.
    Motley had an All-American-caliber season and brings tremendous length and athleticism to the floor.


  14. New York Knicks: Dwayne Bacon, SG, Florida State, 6-6, Soph.
    A smooth scorer with good size for the next level, Bacon knows how to get buckets from the perimeter or when attacking the tin.




  15. Houston Rockets: Edmond Sumner, PG, Xavier, 6-6, Soph.
    Lengthy and athletic, Sumner is explosive at the rim, but not a great outside shooter. He suffered a torn ACL in January, which hurts his stock some.


  16. Philadelphia 76ers: Mathias Lessort, PF, France, 6-9, 1996.
    The 76ers can go the draft-and-stash route due to having four second-round picks.


  17. Milwaukee Bucks: Devin Robinson, SF, Florida, 6-8, Jr.
    Robinson has the ideal size and athleticism for an NBA small forward, but he needs to refine his all-around skill set.




  18. Indiana Pacers: Tyler Dorsey, G, Oregon, 6-4, Soph.
    Dorsey has good size and scoring ability, but he needs to become a better distributor.


  19. Denver Nuggets: Jonah Bolden, PF, Australia, 6-10, 1996.
    Bolden is a former UCLA Bruin who chose to play professionally overseas this past season.


  20. Philadelphia 76ers: Alpha Kaba, PF, France, 6-10, 1996.
    Kaba is an athletic, energy frontcourt player, and this would be the Sixers’ fourth pick of the second round, so they could look to go the foreign route.


  21. Denver Nuggets: Frank Mason, PG, Kansas, 6-0, Sr.
    Despite being a bit undersized, Mason is a veteran floor leader who can score or distribute as a lead guard.


  22. New Orleans Pelicans: Sindarius Thornwell, SG, South Carolina, 6-5, Sr.
    Thornwell is a physical scoring guard who can muscle you inside or shoot it from deep.


  23. Boston Celtics: Cameron Oliver, PF, Nevada, 6-8, Jr.
    Though an undersized four man, Oliver can step out and knock down jumpers.


  24. Phoenix Suns: Thomas Bryant, C, Indiana, 6-11, Soph.
    Bryant is an inside/outside threat, but he will struggle defensively in the NBA.


  25. Utah Jazz: Vlatko Cancar, SF, Slovenia, 6-8, 1997.
    The Jazz go the foreign route with their fourth pick of the 2017 NBA Draft.


  26. Boston Celtics: Dillon Brooks, SF, Oregon, 6-6, Jr.
    The Canadian is a physical, though undersized, forward who uses his strong build to out-muscle opponents at the rim.


  27. Brooklyn Nets: Kobi Simmons, PG, Arizona, 6-4, Fr.
    Simmons has great size and athleticism for the next level, but coming off a disappointing freshman campaign at Arizona, has a lot of developing to do with his all-around game before he becomes a factor at the next level.




  28. New York Knicks: Nigel Hayes, F, Wisconsin, 6-7, Sr.
    Hayes projects as an undersized power forward at the next level since he struggles shooting it from distance.


  29. San Antonio Spurs: V.J. Beachem, SF, Notre Dame, 6-8, Sr.
    A sharpshooter with good size, Beachem could find his niche at the next level.


  30. Atlanta Hawks: L.J. Peak, SG, Georgetown, 6-5, Jr.
    Peak is a physical, athletic guard who struggles shooting it from deep.
