The 2025 season is going to be a critical year for the current Colts regime. If things go poorly, the franchise could move on from head coach Shane Steichen and/or general manager Chris Ballard. Indianapolis needs third-year quarterback Anthony Richardson to make significant improvement, and keeping Richardson healthy is essential as he has dealt with a number of injuries in his first two seasons with the Colts. Improving the offensive line to protect Richardson and open holes for star back Jonathan Taylor is a consideration for the Colts in the first round, and sources say that they love Alabama guard Tyler Booker.
Booker is a well-rounded player who is known to be a team leader. He is very strong at the point of attack to open holes in the ground game and was reliable to protect quarterback Jalen Milroe the past two seasons. Sources believe the Colts could have the best guard tandem in the NFL with Quenton Nelson and Booker and the best interior trio with center Ryan Kelly.
Taking Booker in the first round would definitely improve their blocking talent. However, they were not sure the Colts would ultimately be willing to take a guard that high. The Colts have the 14th overall pick, and the majority of teams are resistant to draft a guard in the first round. However, team sources from multiple teams say they think Booker will go between picks 15-25. The Colts are on the edge of that, and giving Richardson and Taylor in an elite interior offensive line could be too intriguing to turn down as you can see in my latest 2025 NFL Mock Draft.
