Teams Split on Josh Simmons in 1st Round

The 2025 NFL Draft is known to be a weak year for offensive tackle talent. One of the prospects who could have been in contention to be at the top of the class was Ohio State’s Josh Simmons. The 6-foot-5, 310-pounder was having a strong season for the Buckeyes before tearing his ACL in the middle of October. That injury could impact the start of Simmons’s rookie year, and it definitely hurts his draft. In a survey of sources from six different teams, they were evenly split on whether Simmons would be a first- or second-round pick.

Simmons has the reputation as an athletic tackle who can pass protect, and contribute as a run defender. He started his college career at San Diego State before transferring to the Buckeyes.

In the first round of the 2025 NFL Draft, the only consensus definite first-round offensive tackles are LSU’s Will Campbell and Texas’ Kelvin Banks. There are plenty of teams that need offensive tackle help, and there are limited options in free agency. Thus, Simmons has a real shot to be selected on the opening night of the draft.
