Prospect Summary:

Ohio State has been a factory for first-round wide receivers and that streak will continue in 2025 with Egbuka. Egbuka was a top recruit who flashed as a kick returner in 2021, averaging 29 yards per return while catching nine passes for 191 yards. In 2022, Egbuka took over as a starter across from Marvin Harrison Jr. and had a breakout season with 74 receptions for 1,151 yards and 10 touchdowns. He also contributed as a punt returner at times. In 2023, Egbuka did not play as well and was injured. He seemed to lack speed from the previous season as Egbuka totaled 41 catches for 515 yards and four touchdowns. In 2024, Egbuka was back to his old self as he hauled in 81 catches for 1,011 yards and 10 touchdowns.

Egbuka is a polished receiver who looks ready to start quickly in his professional career. With smooth route-running, Egbuka consistently generates separation and gets open for his quarterback. While he is not elite and fast like Tyreek Hill or Jamison Williams, Egbuka has good speed and can run by defensive backs. He has the ability to challenge defenses over the top and is a threat to go vertical. With his route-running and quickness, Egbuka is reliable to get open and is dangerous to rip off yards. After the catch, he is a shifty runner who will dodge tacklers and weave his way through the defense with nifty footwork to keep defenders from getting a hold of him. Egbuka is sudden and shifty through the route with explosion out of his cuts as defenders really struggle to prevent him from generating separation.

In the NFL, Egbuka would fit best as a No. 2 receiver paired with a true No. 1. Egbuka has quality size and speed, but his skill set is not overwhelming for pro defensive backs. If Egbuka were to land in a passing offense with a good quarterback, he could be very productive and a dangerous weapon. Egbuka is a polished wide receiver who should compete to start quickly, and he looks like a reasonably safe pick to turn into a solid starter. In the 2025 NFL Draft, Egbuka looks like a potential selection in the back half of the first round, and he should not last long if he makes it to round two.

Prospect Comparison:

Chris Godwin. In terms of skill set and style of play, Egbuka reminds me of Godwin. I asked some team sources who know Godwin very well if they thought that was a good comp for Egbuka, and they said yes, it was. If Egbuka stays healthy and lands with a quality quarterback, he could have a career similar to Godwin’s.
