Ohio State
Kurt Coleman, S, Ohio State
Height: 5-10. Weight: 191.
Projected 40 Time: 4.53.
Pro Day 40 Time: 4.52.
Benchx225: 19. Vertical: 34.5.
Projected Round (2010): 4-5.
1/14/10: Once again qualified as a member of the All-Big Ten First Team with 68 tackles, five picks and four pass deflections.
1/9/10: Made the All-Big Ten First Team with 68 tackles, five interceptions and four passes broken up.
3/7/09: A member of the All-Big Ten Second Team, Kurt Coleman garnered 78 tackles, 4.5 TFL, four picks and five passes broken up in 2008.
8/6/08: Had 64 tackles and four pass break-ups as a sophomore.
Jim Cordle, C, Ohio State
Height: 6-4. Weight: 305.
Projected 40 Time: 5.08.
Pro Day 40 Time: 5.36.
Benchx225: 23. Arm: .
Projected Round (2010): 7-FA.
1/17/10: His senior season was ruined because of lingering ankle injuries.
7/28/08: Jim Cordle did a solid job taking over for Doug Datish as a redshirt sophomore last season.
Thaddeus Gibson, DE/OLB, Ohio State
Height: 6-2. Weight: 243.
Projected 40 Time: 4.68.
Combine 40 Time: 4.71.
Pro Day 40 Time: 4.58.
Benchx225: 32. Vertical: .
Projected Round (2010): 3-4.
3/15/10: Thaddeus Gibson ran a blazing 4.58 at his Pro Day. He’s a late Day 2/early Day 3 rush linebacker prospect.
1/6/10: Thaddeus Gibson has declared for the 2010 NFL Draft. Gibson had 45 tackles and 13 TFL, but only four sacks. Not sure if I understand this one.
Robert Rose, DE/DT, Ohio State
Height: 6-4. Weight: 294.
Projected 40 Time: 4.79.
Pro Day 40 Time: 4.74.
Benchx225: 24. Vertical: 27.5.
Projected Round (2010): FA.
1/25/10: Had just three TFL and two sacks as a senior.
2/12/09: This guy keeps getting playing time because Lawrence Wilson is always hurt. Robert Rose registered three TFL and half a sack as a junior.
7/30/08: Robert Rose started just four games. It’s tough say where he’ll fit in at the next level.
Anderson Russell, FS, Ohio State
Height: 6-1. Weight: 202.
Projected 40 Time: 4.60.
Pro Day 40 Time: 4.45.
Benchx225: 18. Vertical: 37.
Projected Round (2010): 7-FA.
1/14/10: Anderson Russell really struggled in 2009 and is now in danger of not being drafted at all.
3/13/09: Anderson Russell, Russell Anderson, whatever his name is, had 67 tackles, three passes broken up and two interceptions as a junior.
8/6/08: Anderson Russell (or is it Russell Anderson?) started every game as a sophomore. He managed 63 tackles (seven for loss), five pass break-ups and three sacks, earning an All-Big Ten honorable mention. Russell had a nasty knee injury that caused him to miss half of his redshirt freshman campaign.
Ray Small, WR, Ohio State
Height: 5-10. Weight: 182.
Projected 40 Time: 4.40.
Pro Day 40 Time: 4.42.
Vertical: 31. Broad: 9-11.
Projected Round (2010): FA.
1/19/10: Didn’t improve as a senior – 15 receptions, 175 yards.
2/7/09: Ray Small will have more of a chance with both Brian Robiskie and Brian Hartline gone. The small, but quick wideout accumulated 18 catches and 149 yards as a junior. He also took a punt back for a touchdown.
7/26/08: Roy Small produced just 20 catches and 267 yards, as he couldn’t get past Brian Robiskie and Brian Hartline on the depth chart. However, Small was a solid return specialist, which is why he makes this list.
Lawrence Wilson, DE, Ohio State
Height: 6-4. Weight: 272.
Projected 40 Time: 4.70.
Pro Day 40 Time: 4.84.
Benchx225: 26. Vertical: 38.
Projected Round (2010): FA.
1/22/10: Injuries have killed his career. Only two sacks in 2009.
2/12/09: Tore his ACL in October. This guy just can’t stay healthy.
7/30/08: The Buckeyes had lots of hope for Lawrence Wilson last year, but he suffered a broken leg in the season opener and missed the entire 2007 campaign. If Wilson comes back at 100 percent, he will definitely soar up this list.
Doug Worthington, DE/DT, Ohio State
Height: 6-5. Weight: 290.
Projected 40 Time: 4.90.
Pro Day 40 Time: 4.99.
Benchx225: 19. Vertical: 35.5.
Projected Round (2010): 7-FA.
1/25/10: Had 42 tackles, five TFL and two sacks as a senior.
2/14/09: Doug Worthington didn’t do much to make people forget about his DUI arrest; he had 34 tackles, five TFL and 1.5 sacks in 2008.
8/1/08: Doug Worthington killed his NFL Draft stock a few days ago, as he was arrested for DUI charges.
LSU
Rahim Alem, DE, LSU
Height: 6-3. Weight: 257.
Projected 40 Time: 4.77.
Combine 40 Time: 4.71.
Pro Day 40 Time: DNP.
Benchx225: 18. Vertical: 33.
Projected Round (2010): 6-7.
1/22/10: Managed just 7.5 TFL and 3.5 sacks as a senior.
11/14/09: Really disappointed this year with five TFL and two sacks. Was already a liability against the run, so the lack of production hurts his stock.
2/12/09: Earned a spot on the All-SEC First Team, thanks to 11.5 TFL and eight sacks.
Charles Alexander, DT, LSU
Height: 6-3. Weight: 298.
Projected 40 Time: 5.10.
Pro Day 40 Time: 5.40.
Benchx225: . Vertical: 32.5.
Projected Round (2010): FA.
Harry Coleman, S, LSU
Height: 6-2. Weight: 212.
Projected 40 Time: 4.55.
Combine 40 Time: 4.56.
Pro Day 40 Time: 4.49.
Benchx225: 13. Vertical: 33.
Projected Round (2010): 4-5.
1/14/10: Harry Coleman notched 82 tackles, nine TFL, four sacks and four pass deflections as a senior.
Chris Hawkins, CB, LSU
Height: 6-0. Weight: 187.
Projected 40 Time: 4.54.
Combine 40 Time: 4.43.
Pro Day 40 Time: 4.42.
Benchx225: 16. Vertical: 36.5.
Projected Round (2010): 5-6.
1/9/10: Chris Hawkins broke up seven passes as a senior.
3/7/09: Chris Hawkins broke up nine passes in 2008. He also had 50 tackles and three picks. However, he really struggled in coverage late in the year.
8/5/08: Chris Hawkins has yet to record a start at LSU, but that’s understandable, given that he was playing behind Chevis Jackson and Jonathan Zenon last year.
Brandon LaFell, WR, LSU – Scouting Report
Height: 6-3. Weight: 211.
Projected 40 Time: 4.49.
Combine 40 Time: 4.59.
Pro Day 40 Time: 4.54.
Vertical: . Broad: .
Projected Round (2010): 2.
3/15/10: Brandon LaFell ran a bit better at his Pro Day, managing a 4.54.
3/1/10: Not the Combine performance Brandon LaFell wanted. LaFell timed in at 4.59, which may eliminate his chances of going in Round 1.
1/19/10: Brandon LaFell finished the season with 57 catches, 792 yards and 11 touchdowns.
10/10/09: Brandon LaFell is off to a great start despite not having a great quarterback. In five games, LaFell has 23 receptions, 282 yards and five scores.
1/19/09: Brandon LaFell has opted to go back to school after declaring early. LaFell didn’t sign with an agent, so he was able to use the 72-hour rule and retract his admission. This was a great move by LaFell, who has a small shot at going in the first round in 2010.
1/4/09: Despite his 61 receptions, 903 yards and eight touchdowns, it appears as though Brandon LaFell will return for his senior season.
10/19/08: I love Brandon LaFell as a receiving prospect. LaFell has really stepped up this year; his worst performance was a 7-catch, 59-yard output in a loss at Florida.
5/22/08: Brandon LaFell cooled off toward the end of the season but still managed to lead the team in receiving yards (656). He’ll have to be more of a factor with Early Doucet gone.
Chad Jones, S, LSU
Height: 6-2. Weight: 225.
Projected 40 Time: 4.59.
Combine 40 Time: 4.57.
Pro Day 40 Time: 4.57.
Benchx225: 9. Vertical: .
Projected Round (2010): 2.
1/12/10: Chad Jones has declared for the 2010 NFL Draft. Jones probably would have been better off returning to school to get some more starting experience, but I don’t think this is a terrible decision. Jones could be the third safety drafted.
Perry Riley, OLB, LSU
Height: 6-1. Weight: 239.
Projected 40 Time: 4.60.
Combine 40 Time: 4.64.
Pro Day 40 Time: DNP.
Benchx225: 17. Vertical: .
Projected Round (2010): 3-4.
1/8/10: Perry Riley had 97 tackles, 4.5 TFL and five passes broken up in his second year as a starter.
2/16/09: Perry Riley had a great year replacing all of those NFL-bound linebackers that LSU lost, compiling 60 tackles, seven TFL, 1.5 sacks and three passes broken up.
Charles Scott, RB, LSU
Height: 5-11. Weight: 232.
Projected 40 Time: 4.64.
Combine 40 Time: 4.67.
Pro Day 40 Time: 4.54.
Benchx225: 17. Vertical: 31. Broad: 9-6.
Projected Round (2010): 5-6.
1/26/10: Missed the Senior Bowl because he didn’t pass his physical.
1/16/10: Played in only nine games because of a broken collarbone.
11/7/09: Struggling this year with a 4.4 YPC and only four touchdowns.
2/6/09: A team leader who had an incredible junior campaign. Charles Scott rushed for 1,174 yards and a whopping 18 touchdowns. He gained 5.4 YPC.
7/25/08: Should take over for Jacob Hester as LSU’s power back. Charles Scott totaled 324 yards and five touchdowns in relief duty last season. He also caught 12 passes out of the backfield, which is solid for a back of his size.
Keiland Williams, RB, LSU
Height: 5-11. Weight: 231.
Projected 40 Time: 4.52.
Pro Day 40 Time: 4.49.
Benchx225: 16. Vertical: 33. Broad: .
Projected Round (2010): 7-FA.
1/16/10: Despite the early workload, Keiland Williams finished with just 70 carries for 368 yards. He missed the end of the year with an ankle injury.
10/10/09: Keiland Williams is getting more of a workload this year. In five games, he has 38 carries for 187 yards (4.9 YPC).
10/18/08: Keiland Williams was supposed to take over the workload with Jacob Hester going to the NFL. Instead, Charles Scott is getting all the rushes.
5/21/08: The “Round 1-2” tag is based solely on potential, as Keiland Williams greatest carry total was 10 last year. With Jacob Hester gone, however, Williams is going to have to carry the load now. He certainly has the size, speed and skill to be successful doing so; the 224-pounder maintains a 4.4 40 and a career yards-per-carry average of 6.2.
Al Woods, DT, LSU
Height: 6-4. Weight: 307.
Projected 40 Time: 5.12.
Combine 40 Time: 5.12.
Pro Day 40 Time: 4.98.
Benchx225: 23. Vertical: 37.
Projected Round (2009): 7-FA.
1/24/10: Rebounded with a half-decent senior campaign (33 tackles, 5.5 TFL).
2/14/09: Limited by a leg injury, Al Woods had just 11 tackles on the year.
5/9/08: Al Woods finally got his first start in October and he’ll have more opportunities with Glenn Dorsey headed to Kansas City. He’ll have to put his size and strength together and become a force on LSU’s defensive line.
California
Tyson Alualu, DE/DT, California
Height: 6-3. Weight: 294.
Projected 40 Time: 4.92.
Combine 40 Time: 4.87.
Pro Day 40 Time: DNP.
Benchx225: 24. Vertical: .
Projected Round (2009): 2-3.
1/24/10: Finished a productive senior season with 10.5 TFL, 7.5 sacks and four passrs broken up.
11/15/09: Has an advantage over prospective 3-4 ends in this draft because he plays the position in Cal’s 3-4 defense. Can also play defensive tackle in the 4-3.
2/14/09: Improved his ability to get to the quarterback, managing 11 TFL and six sacks in 2008.
8/1/08: Will play 3-4 end in the NFL. Tyson Alualu had 52 tackles and 2.5 sacks last year.
Nyan Boateng, WR, California
Height: 6-1. Weight: 204.
Projected 40 Time: 4.44.
Combine 40 Time: 4.64.
Pro Day 40 Time: 4.66.
Vertical: 33.5. Broad: 9-2.
Projected Round (2010): FA.
Mike Tepper, OT, California
Height: 6-5. Weight: 320.
Projected 40 Time: 5.24.
Combine 40 Time: 5.36.
Pro Day 40 Time: 5.25.
Benchx225: 28. Arm: 32 1/2.
Projected Round (2010): 5-6.
1/18/10: Started every game at left tackle and qualified for the All-Pac 10 First Team.
5/15/09: Missed all of 2008 with pectoral and groin injuries. Forunately, Cal’s left tackle received another year of eligibility.
Verran Tucker, California
Height: 6-2. Weight: 202.
Projected 40 Time: 4.45.
Pro Day 40 Time: 4.65.
Vertical: 36.5. Broad: 10-1.
Projected Round (2010): 7-FA.
1/19/10: Verran Tucker finished with just 29 catches for 453 yards and a touchdown as a senior.
10/10/09: Has 10 receptions through four games.
Indiana University of Pennsylvania
Akwasi Owusu-Ansah, CB, Indiana of Pennsylvania
Height: 6-1. Weight: 207.
Projected 40 Time: 4.43.
Combine 40 Time: 4.43.
Pro Day 40 Time: 4.31.
Benchx225: 21. Vertical: .
Projected Round (2010): 2-3.
3/15/10: Akwai Owusu-Ansah had an incredible Pro Day, running a 4.31 and benching 21 reps.
1/9/10: Akwasi Owusu-Ansah’s first name aptly means “born on Sunday.” AOA averaged 29.7 yards on kickoffs and 12.5 yards on punt returns with five special-teams touchdowns.
