2014 NBA Draft Scouting Report: Jordan McRae

Position: Shooing Guard

Size: 6-6, 185

School: Tennessee, Senior

Strengths:
  • Scoring ability
  • Slasher
  • Body control in the lane
  • Athleticism
  • Creating his own shot
  • Pull-up jumper
  • Three-point range
  • Length
  • Active in passing lane

  • Weaknesses:
  • Unorthodox release on jumper
  • Shot selection
  • Streaky shooter
  • Too often settles for jumpers
  • Finishing through contact
  • Strength

  • Summary: McRae is a volume scorer who is at his best creating for himself, whether it’s attacking the rim or pulling up from the perimeter. He has great length for an NBA shooting guard, but needs to get stronger. McRae should hear his name called in the mid-late second round of the 2014 NBA Draft.

Player Comparison: Will Barton. Barton is a lengthy, thin two guard who is a capable all-around scorer, but hasn’t displayed much consistency with his outside game. McRae is probably a better long-range threat but has a similar build to Barton. McRae figures to be a second-round pick, like Barton, and will battle to keep a roster spot and earn a role in a team’s rotation.
