2010 NBA Draft Stock

Updated 11/20

2010 NBA Draft Stock: Buying

Evan Turner, G/F, Ohio State, Sr.
What’s more impressive: his opening night triple double of 14 points, 17 boards, and 10 assists or following that up with a 24-point, 17-rebound, 4-assist showing the next game? Turner is playing a Scottie Pippen-like point forward role for the Buckeyes and can play four positions on the floor. He is a top-10 lock and my new college hoops man crush this season.

Xavier Henry, SG, Kansas, Fr.
In his Jayhawk debut, Henry scored 27 points on 5-of-8 shooting from downtown in just 24 minutes. His offensive game is smooth and he has a sweet stroke from the outside. Physically, Henry is ready for the NBA and will likely be a one-and-done especially if Kansas makes it to the Final Four, which seems very likely.

Patrick Patterson, PF, Kentucky, Jr.
Returning to school may have been the best decision Patterson ever made. Playing in John Calipari’s dribble-drive motion offense has developed Patterson’s perimeter game which will only make him more attractive to NBA teams. Physically, Patterson remains a man among boys with his strength inside. If he can consistently knock down jump shots and show he is a better ball-handler, he will not fall out of the lottery.

2010 NFL Draft Stock: Selling

John Henson, F, North Carolina, Fr.
The Heels have only played three games, but Henson doesn’t look near ready to take his game to the next level after this season. He has only played 34 minutes and scored 12 points. Yes, for a 6-10 player he is a ridiculous athlete, but he is so skinny and his overall offensive game needs a lot of grooming that he should spend at least two years developing his body and skill set before he jumps to the NBA.

Kevin Coble, F, Northwestern, Sr.
The versatile Coble was hoping to help lead Northwestern to their first ever trip to the Final Four this season, but will miss the entire 2009-2010 campaign due to season-ending surgery on his left foot. He would be a long shot to get drafted anyway, but will seek a medical redshirt for next season in hopes of playing his final year with the Wildcats.

Renardo Sidney, PF, Mississippi State, Fr.
The NCAA is still reviewing information regarding Sidney’s eligibility. Until that issue gets cleared up, Sidney will remain in street clothes for Mississippi State which never helps a player’s draft stock. The talent and size is there, but questions will remain about his effort and character until he proves otherwise on and off the court.
