2020 NFL Free Agency: Star rating is out of five. Age listing as of Sept. 1, 2020.
Follow me @walterfootball for updates.

  1. Amari Cooper, WR, Cowboys. Age: 26.
    Re-signed with Cowboys (5 years, $100 million)

Amari Cooper is a big-time receiving talent, but he comes with plenty of risk. He tends to get injured frequently, and he also quit on the Raiders. The same thing could happen in Dallas, especially if Cooper receives a big contract.

  2. A.J. Green, WR, Bengals. Age: 32.
    Franchised by Bengals

A.J. Green used to be one of the best receivers in the NFL, but those days are long gone. Green can no longer stay healthy – he’s played just one full season since 2015 – and he turns 32 in July, so even if he manages to see the field, it’s unlikely we’ll see him dominate like he used to.

  3. Emmanuel Sanders, WR, 49ers. Age: 33.
Signed with Saints (2 years, $16 million)

Emmanuel Sanders was traded to the 49ers prior to the deadline, and yet he clicked instantly with Jimmy Garoppolo. He made San Francisco’s offense so much more explosive. The only downside is that he’ll turn 33 in March.

  4. Robby Anderson, WR, Jets. Age: 27.
Signed with Panthers (2 years, $20 million)

Robby Anderson is a dynamic deep threat who couldn’t hit his potential because of limitations with the rest of the offense. Anderson has some off-the-field problems.

  5. Breshad Perriman, WR, Buccaneers. Age: 26.
Signed with Jets (1 year, $8 million)

Breshad Perriman had been a major bust throughout his career, but he caught fire late in 2019, finally emerging as a the dynamic threat the Ravens thought they were getting when they chose him in the opening round of the 2015 NFL Draft.

  6. Larry Fitzgerald, WR, Cardinals. Age: 37.
Larry Fitzgerald is nearing retirement at the age of 37 (as of August). He had just 804 yards and four touchdowns in 2019, finishing on a down note. However, Fitzgerald can still be a dependable player, so it could help Kyler Murray if Arizona brings back Fitzgerald for another year.

  7. Randall Cobb, WR, Cowboys. Age: 30.
Signed with Texans (3 years, $27 million)

Randall Cobb had a solid first year in Dallas, catching 55 passes for 828 yards and three touchdowns. He played 15 games, which is a rarity. He also turns 30 this offseason, so his injury risk will only rise.

  8. Demarcus Robinson, WR, Chiefs. Age: 25.
    Re-signed with Chiefs (1 year, $2.3 million)

Demarcus Robinson is raw, but he’s shown some exceptional play-making ability in the wake of some injuries in front of him.

  9. Devin Funchess, WR, Colts. Age: 26.
Signed with Packers (1 year, $2.5 million)

Devin Funchess signed a 1-year “prove it” deal, but barely played for the Colts because of injuries. He’s still young and talented enough to thrive if he gets healthy.

  10. Danny Amendola, WR, Lions. Age: 34.
Danny Amendola was a dependable slot receiver, even at the age of 34. Amendola doesn’t have much of a future in the NFL, but he should have a solid season or two remaining in the tank.

  11. Keelan Cole (RFA), WR, Jaguars. Age: 27.
    Tendered by Jaguars (2nd round)

Keelan Cole has shown some flashes of brilliance at times, but has disappointed more often than not. He’s still young and talented enough to make some improvements.

  12. Josh Gordon, WR, Seahawks. Age: 29.
    Re-signed with Seahawks

Roger Goodell continues to rule the NFL like a Saudi Arabaian dictator, opting to suspend Josh Gordon indefinitely for no good reason.

  13. Corey Coleman, WR, Giants. Age: 26.
Corey Coleman is an explosive athlete, and he’s still young (26 in July), so I’ll list him as a two-star free agent. However, he has been a huge disappointment thus far. There’s still time for him to be a late bloomer, but he’s running out of chances.

  14. Paul Richardson, WR, Redskins. Age: 28.
Paul Richardson signed a 5-year, $40 million contract a couple of offseasons ago. This was an abysmal deal, and you can read about some other horrible contracts in my book, A Safety and a Field Goal. Now that the self promotion is out of the way, Richardson still has some potential remaining at the age of 28, but time is running out for him to live up to it.

  15. Mohamed Sanu, WR, Patriots. Age: 31.
What a waste of a second-round pick. Mohamed Sanu is completely washed up, as he can’t separate anymore. Adding injury to insult, his bum ankle can’t heal. Sanu may end up somewhere once he heals, but at 31, he’s a shell of his former self.

  21. Taylor Gabriel, WR, Bears. Age: 29.

  23. Nelson Agholor, WR, Eagles. Age: 27. — Signed with Raiders
  24. Marqise Lee, WR, Jaguars. Age: 28. — Signed with Patriots
  25. Damiere Byrd, WR, Cardinals. Age: 27. — Signed with Patriots

  31. Demaryius Thomas, WR, Jets. Age: 32.
  32. Jermaine Kearse, WR, Lions. Age: 30.
  33. Russell Shepard, WR, Giants. Age: 29.
  34. Trevor Davis, WR/KR, Dolphins. Age: 27.
