Kickers:
-
Cairo Santos (RFA), K, Chiefs. Age: 25.
Signed with Bears
Cairo Santos, only 25, is a very skilled kicker, having nailed 31-of-35 tries in 2016. He’s missed five extra points the past two years, however.
-
Brandon McManus (RFA), K, Broncos. Age: 26.
Tendered by Broncos
Brandon McManus has connected on at least 85 percent of his kicks over the past two seasons, and he’s only missed two extra points in his career. Just 26 in July, McManus could continue to improve.
-
Steven Hauschka, K, Seahawks. Age: 32.
Signed with Bills
Steven Hauschka has drilled all seven of his attempts from 50-plus the past couple of years. However, he’s had issues with extra points, missing six of 35 tries during the 2016 campaign.
-
Phil Dawson, K, 49ers. Age: 42.
Signed with Cardinals
Phil Dawson turns 42 in January, but he’s still good at directing the ball through the uprights and can probably creak out another positive season or two. Dawson nailed most of his attempts in 2016.
-
Greg Zuerlein, K, Rams. Age: 29.
Re-signed with Rams (3 years, $6.75 million)
Greg Zuerlein struggled mightily in 2015, drilling just 20 of his 30 attempted field goals. He worked on his craft the following offseason and improved, as his conversion percentage was better than 80 degrees. Nicknamed “The Leg,” Zuerlein was uncharacteristially woeful from beyond 50 in 2015, hitting just 3-of-9 attempts.
-
Chandler Catanzaro (RFA), K, Cardinals. Age: 26.
Signed with Jets
Chandler Catanzaro struggled this past season, but given that he converted 87.9 and 90.3 percent of his field goals in 2014 and 2015, respectively, I’ll give him the benefit of the doubt.
-
Josh Lambo, K, Chargers. Age: 26.
Signed with Jaguars
Josh Lambo went 26-of-32 in each of his first two seasons. He also missed four extra points both years.
-
Nick Novak, K, Texans. Age: 36.
Signed with Chargers
It’s unclear why the Chargers were willing to run Nick Novak out of town a couple of years ago. He has done well in Houston; he connected on 35-of-41 tries in 2016.
-
Nick Folk, K, Buccaneers. Age: 32.
Nick Folk hit at least 82.1 percent of his field goals over the past four years heading into 2017, and he missed just two extra points since the rule was changed. However, he had a mental breakdown with the Buccaneers.
-
Robert Aguayo, K, Bears. Age: 23.
Signed with Panthers
Though it was a stupid pick, Roberto Aguayo was good enough at Florida State to be a second-round selection. He choked under pressure, however, going 22-of-31 as a rookie. Following two missed kicks in the preseason opener, he was released. Aguayo has kicking talent for sure, but he seems to be a broken man right now.
-
Dan Carpenter, K, Bills. Age: 31.
Dan Carpenter hit at least 85 percent of his kicks heading into 2016, but was just 19-of-25 (76.0%) this past year. He has also missed 11 combined extra points in 2015 and 2016.
- Cody Parkey, K, Browns. Age: 25. — Signed with Dolphins
- Blair Walsh, K, Vikings. Age: 27. — Signed with Seahawks
- Connor Barth, K, Bears. Age: 31. — Re-signed with Bears (1 year)
- Travis Coons, K, Chargers. Age: 25.
- Mike Nugent, K, Giants. Age: 35. — Signed with Bears
- Jason Myers, K, Jaguars. Age: 26.
- Josh Scobee, K, Saints. Age: 35. — Announced retirement
- Younghoe Koo, K, Chargers. Age: 23.
Punters:
-
Britton Colquitt, P, Browns. Age: 32.
Re-signed with Browns (4 years)
Britton Colquitt was 21st in net punting in 2015, but improved in that department this past season, finishing on the edge of the top 10.
-
Andy Lee, P, Panthers. Age: 35.
Signed with Cardinals
Andy Lee was once an All-Pro player. He’s not the same punter now that he’s 35, but he’s still solid. The Panthers cut him to save $2 million.
-
Shane Lechler, P, Texans. Age: 41.
Re-signed with Texans
Shane Lechler used to be a great punter. He turns 41 in August, but he still happens to be average at his position, so he can continue to keep on playing.
-
Colton Schmidt (RFA), P, Bills. Age: 26.
Re-signed with Bills
Colton Schmidt was in the top 10 in net average in 2015, but was one of the worst in that regard this past season.
- Jeff Locke, P, Vikings. Age: 27. — Signed with Colts
