2015 NFL Free Agency: Star rating is out of five. Age listing as of Sept. 1, 2015.
Follow me @walterfootball for updates.

  1. Devin McCourty, S/CB, Patriots. Age: 28.
    Re-signed with Patriots

Formerly a cornerback, Devin McCourty has been one of the top safeties in the NFL over the past few years. He has no weaknesses in his game, and he deserves a huge contract.

  2. Tashaun Gipson (RFA), S, Browns. Age: 25.
    Tendered by Browns

Tashaun Gipson, just 25 in August, is one of the top, young safeties in the NFL. His absence at the end of the season made a huge impact; the Browns were 7-4 with him, but 0-5 without him when he sprained his MCL.

  3. Will Hill (RFA), S, Ravens. Age: 25.
    Tendered by Ravens

Will Hill would be ranked higher than this if it wasn’t for his off-the-field issues. He played extremely well for the Ravens this season following his six-game suspension for violating the substance-abuse policy.

  4. Rodney McLeod (RFA), S, Rams. Age: 25.
    Tendered by Rams

Despite going undrafted out of Virginia, Rodney McLeod has been able to develop into a solid starting safety. He’s good in coverage, and he’ll only be 25 in June, so there’s still plenty of room for growth.

  5. Rahim Moore, S, Broncos. Age: 25.
Signed with Texans (3 years, $12 million)

Rahim Moore nearly lost his leg a year ago because of lateral compartment syndrome and didn’t look like the same player in 2014. However, he’s still young (25 on Feb. 11), so perhaps he can get back to where he was. Moore didn’t play poorly this past season, but he wasn’t nearly as effective.

  6. Da’Norris Searcy, S, Bills. Age: 27.
Signed with Titans (4 years, $24 million)

Da’Norris Searcy did a good job in his first full season as a starter, replacing the New Orleans-bound Jairus Byrd. Searcy played well in all regards.

  7. Louis Delmas, S, Dolphins. Age: 28.
    Re-signed with Dolphins (1 year, $3.5 million)

Louis Delmas would be ranked much higher than this if he could stay healthy. Delmas is constantly banged up, however, and his latest injury, a torn ACL he suffered in early December, could hinder his 2015 campaign.

  8. Mike Adams, S, Colts. Age: 34.
    Re-signed with Colts (2 years)

Apparently a late bloomer, Mike Adams had an exceptional 2014 campaign after two mediocre years in Denver. Adams is a nice story, but he’s 34 as of March, so he could see a decline next season.

  9. Dwight Lowery, S, Falcons. Age: 29.
    Signed with Colts

Dwight Lowery is a solid, but unspectacular safety whose one weakness has nothing to do with his ability. Lowery has an extensive concussion history. He managed to play all 16 games in 2014, but he missed 20 games in the two prior seasons.

  10. Darian Stewart, S, Ravens. Age: 27.
    Signed with Broncos (2 years)

Darian Stewart has dealt with numerous lingering injuries throughout his tenure in St. Louis, but his first year in Baltimore was a healthy and successful one. Stewart is an adequate starter when 100 percent.

  11. Stevie Brown, S, Texans. Age: 28.
Stevie Brown was benched early in the season, but he played well once he regained the starting job late in the year. Brown may not have been 100 percent coming off his knee injury.

  12. Dawan Landry, S, Jets. Age: 32.
Dawan Landry struggled for years with the Jaguars and Jets, yet he was able to put together a strong 2014 campaign. Unfortunately for Landry, he just turned 32, so he could begin to regress soon.

  13. Antrel Rolle, S, Giants. Age: 32.
Signed with Bears (3 years, $11.25 million; $5 million guaranteed)

Antrel Rolle played extremely well in 2013, but there was a noticeable decline this past season. He was a major liability in run support, which isn’t a surprise, given that he’ll be 33 at some point during the 2015 campaign. He can still start, but not for much longer.

  14. Brandin Ross (RFA), S, Raiders. Age: 25.
    Re-signed with Raiders (1 year, $1.542 million)

Brandin Ross played rather well this season despite signing just a 1-year, $570,000 deal last spring. Just 25, Ross has room for growth.

  15. Charles Woodson, S, Raiders. Age: 38.
    Re-signed with Raiders (1 year)

It’s amazing that Charles Woodson, 39 next October, still continues to be a functional starter. Woodson said he plans to play in 2015, and why not? The converted corner should keep going until he’s a liability. He could be a liability next year, given his age, but he wasn’t one this past season.

  16. Kendrick Lewis, S, Texans. Age: 27.
    Signed with Ravens (3 years)

Kendrick Lewis got off to a strong start to his career in Kansas City, but managed to regress each season. The Chiefs eventually gave up on him, but he rebounded with a decent season in Houston.

  17. Jaiquawn Jarrett (RFA), S, Jets. Age: 25.
It’s hard to believe after his stint in Philadelphia, but Jaiquawn Jarrett actually filled in admirably for the inept Antonio Allen, who was benched in the middle of the season. He’s only 25, so maybe the former second-round pick has turned things around.

  18. Patrick Chung, S, Patriots. Age: 28.
    Re-signed with Patriots (3 years, $8.2 million)

Patrick Chung was awful in Philadelphia, but he just seems to play well for Bill Belichick. Chung rebounded with a decent 2014 campaign, though he struggled a bit down the stretch.

  19. Sergio Brown, S, Colts. Age: 27.
    Signed with Jaguars (3 years)

A strong special-teamer, Sergio Brown played well when stepping in as a starting safety when LaRon Landry was out of the lineup.

  20. Tyvon Branch, S, Raiders. Age: 28.
Signed with Chiefs (1 year, $2 million)

Tyvon Branch was taking up $3 million in cap space, so the Raiders had to let him go. After all, he had appeared in just five games over the past two seasons. Branch can still turn his career around, but time is running out.

  21. Ron Parker, S, Chiefs. Age: 28.
    Re-signed with Chiefs (5 years, $30 million)

Ron Parker has been generating a ton of interest in free agency, so I thought I’d post a write-up on him. I originally had him as a 1.5-star free agent because he’s a major liability against the run. He’s fine in coverage though.

  22. Bernard Pollard, S, Titans. Age: 30.
Bernard Pollard had been playing well for the Titans early in 2014, but he tore his Achilles in October. He may never be the same player again, considering that he turned 30 in December.

  23. Jeromy Miles, S, Ravens. Age: 28. — Signed with Giants
  24. LaRon Landry, S, Colts. Age: 30.

  26. Marcus Gilchrist, S, Chargers. Age: 26. — Signed with Jets (4 years)
  27. Quintin Demps, S/KR, Giants. Age: 30.

  29. Nate Allen, S, Eagles. Age: 27. — Signed with Raiders
  30. Chris Conte, S, Bears. Age: 26. — Signed with Buccaneers
  31. Quinton Carter, S, Broncos. Age: 27.
  32. Isa Abdul-Quddus, S, Lions. Age: 26. — Re-signed with Lions (1 year, $1.5 million)
  33. Thomas DeCoud, S, Panthers. Age: 30.
  34. Danieal Manning, S, Texans. Age: 33.
  35. Kurt Coleman, S, Chiefs. Age: 27. — Signed with Panthers
  36. Brandon Meriweather, S, Redskins. Age: 31. — Signed with Giants
  37. Major Wright, S, Buccaneers. Age: 27. — Re-signed with Buccaneers
  38. Chris Prosinski, S/ST, Eagles. Age: 28.
  39. Will Allen, S, Steelers. Age: 33. — Re-signed with Steelers
  40. George Wilson, S, Titans. Age: 34.
  41. Sherrod Martin, S, Jaguars. Age: 31.
  42. Trenton Robinson (RFA), S, Redskins. Age: 25. — Re-signed with Redskins
  43. Danny McCray, S, Bears. Age: 27.
  44. Ryan Clark, S, Redskins. Age: 35. — Announced retirement

  45. Taylor Mays, S, Vikings. Age: 27.
  46. Duke Ihenacho (RFA), S, Redskins. Age: 26.
  47. Charles Godfrey, S, Falcons. Age: 29. — Re-signed with Falcons
  48. Jarrett Bush, S, Packers. Age: 31.

  54. Johnson Bademosi (RFA), S, Browns. Age: 25. — Tendered by Browns
  55. Robert Golden (RFA), S, Steelers. Age: 25.
  56. Matt Daniels (RFA), S, Jaguars. Age: 25.
  57. Brynden Trawick (RFA), S, Ravens. Age: 25.
