2023 NFL Draft Stock Up
Emmanuel Forbes, CB, Mississippi State
Forbes is a highly debated prospect for the 2023 NFL Draft. While teams love his incredible ball skills with rare ability to pick off passes and return them for touchdowns, Forbes also worries many evaluators with his size given that he weighed in around 160-pound range. That is extremely thin for the NFL, prompting a lot of durability concerns. However, sources have told WalterFootball.com they think Forbes stands a good shot of going on the opening night of the 2023 NFL Draft.
Tyree Wilson, DE, Texas Tech
I’ve heard buzz from sources that the Arizona Cardinals are high on Wilson, and he is definitely in the running to be the third-overall pick of the 2023 NFL Draft if Arizona is unable to trade down. The Cardinals badly want to trade down, but if they are unable to find a trading partner, they need help on the defensive line after the retirement of J.J. Watt.
Wilson could get selected ahead of Georgia defensive tackle Jalen Carter because of the character and work-ethic concerns around Carter. Wilson also has a shot of going before Alabama edge rusher Will Anderson because some evaluators feel that Wilson offers higher upside thanks to possessing a better skill set than Anderson, including more size, speed and length. Hence, I have Wilson going in third overall in my 2023 NFL Mock Draft.
Darnell Wright, OT, Tennessee
Wright has been a riser over the draft process and has a real shot at going in the top 16 during the 2023 NFL Draft. He could even potentially crack the top 10. Wright is viewed as a safe pick to be a good starter at right tackle as he possesses the strength and power for run blocking along with the skill set to pass protect versus NFL speed rushers. Wright has the potential to go as high as pick No. 7 during the 2023 NFL Draft and probably won’t fall past the early teens. He could be a plug-and-play starter for the next level.
Dawand Jones, OT, Ohio State
Team sources say they expect Jones to go in the top 60 of the 2023 NFL Draft. While Jones does not offer left tackle potential, he is viewed as a safe pick to become a starting right tackle in the NFL. Aided by his big size, Jones should be a plus run blocker quickly as a pro. While Jones has an outside shot of sneaking into Round 1 of the 2023 NFL Draft, he probably won’t fall out of Round 2.
Julius Brents, CB, Kansas State
Brents is a polarizing prospect who some teams really like him while others think he lacks the speed to carry verticals from NFL wide receivers. Although Brents may not fit to cover fast receivers, he is a gritty corner with excellent size to match up against big wideouts and tight ends. If enough teams like Brents, he could easily go in the second round of the 2023 NFL Draft.
2023 NFL Draft Stock Down
Tyrique Stevenson, CB, Miami
In my 2023 NFL Mock Draft I have Stevenson going at the top of the third round, and he definitely could slide to Round 3 because teams have said that he has serious character concerns, both on and off the field. While Stevenson has a good skill set as a press-man corner, he did not look good in off-man coverage last year. Given the flaws in coverage and the character issues with Stevenson, he could be in store for a slide in the 2023 NFL Draft.
Dorian Thompson-Robinson, QB, UCLA
Pro teams are always on the look out for a good developmental backup quarterbacks who they can land on the third day of an NFL draft. Thompson-Robinson looked like he had the potential to be a candidate for that because teams felt Thompson-Robinson needs a lot of work in field vision but has some physical talent. However on top of being a project as a player, there are character concerns that have hurt Thompson-Robinson, and some teams aren’t going to mess with him as a result.
