2010 NFL Draft Combine Stock Report

Sam Bradford, QB, Oklahoma Draft Stock Up
Sam Bradford weighed in at 6-4 1/4 and 236 pounds. Bradford certainly did a lot of bulking up recently to quell the notion that he’s brittle and can’t take a beating. Despite being the inferior prospect, he has emerged as the favorite to go No. 1 overall to St. Louis, but I wouldn’t count out Jimmy Clausen quite yet, seeing as how the Rams haven’t even interviewed with him yet.

Bruce Campbell, OT, Maryland Draft Stock Up
Bruce Campbell benched 225 pounds a whopping 34 times – an impressive feat considering how long his arms are (36 1/4). If Campbell runs a fast 40 on Saturday, Raider fans should just begin ordering Campbell jerseys.

Jimmy Clausen, QB, Notre Dame Draft Stock Up
Despite speculation that he might measure in at 6-1, Jimmy Clausen was a solid 6-2 1/2, 222 pounds at the Combine – which makes him taller than Mark Sanchez.

Poor Todd McShay – now he’s going to have to find something else wrong with Clausen. Here’s a suggestion from Daniel S. via Facebook: “So what is [McShay] going to hate on next? His cup size?”

Jonathan Dwyer, RB, Georgia Tech Draft Stock Down
Bills head coach Chan Gailey expressed some concern about Jonathan Dwyer’s ability to keep his weight under control: “Hes always fought the weight problem every year since high school.” And Gailey is Dwyer’s former coach. Dwyer was 5-11, 229 at the Combine weigh-in, but had been overweight this past season.

Colt McCoy, QB, Texas Draft Stock Down
Colt McCoy measured in at just 6-1, 216. For a guy whose absolute upside is Kyle Orton, being 6-1 is yet another hurdle to overcome in addition to his weak arm strength and unfamiliarity with a pro-style offense. It’s difficult to imagine that McCoy will be selected in the second round of the 2010 NFL Draft.

Russell Okung, OT, Oklahoma State Draft Stock Up
Despite having 36-inch arms, Russell Okung posted 38 reps of 225 pounds at the Combine. Barring a poor Saturday, Okung will walk away from the Combine as a perceived blue-chip prospect. As I’ve been saying for months, the Lions would be wise to draft him No. 2 overall. But regardless of what happens there, Okung is not making it past the Chiefs at No. 5.

Mitch Petrus, G, Arkansas Draft Stock Up
Mitch Petrus notched a whopping 45 reps of 225 pounds on Friday, tying a Combine record. The bench press doesn’t mean all that much in the long run (unless you’re Al Davis), but that’s still an impressive feat.

John Skelton, QB, Fordham Draft Stock Up
John Skelton measured in at an impressive 6-5, 243. He also has great arm strength, and currently stands as a mid-round sleeper. Todd McShay recently berated Skelton’s intangibles and off-the-field issues (sound familiar?), but this seemingly was yet another one of McShay’s baseless fabrications.

Golden Tate, WR, Notre Dame Draft Stock Down
Listed at 5-11, 195, Golden Tate weighed in at 5-10, 199 at the Combine. Tate is built like a running back, and there is some speculation that he projects solely as a slot receiver.

Tim Tebow, QB, Florida Draft Stock Down
Mike Holmgren all but said the Browns weren’t interested in Tim Tebow during Friday’s press conference at the Combine. Holmgren called Tebow a “great person” and said “he’s someone you want on your football team.” Holmgren also wished Tebow good luck in his pro career, but openly questioned his ability to transition to the NFL and seemed to shurg off the notion that Tebow has a chance of joining the Browns.

Mike Williams, WR, Syracuse Draft Stock Down
When asked if he was remorseful about quitting on his team this past season during Friday’s Combine interviews, Mike Williams laughed and seemingly shrugged off the question as if he hadn’t given it much thought. Williams is unquestionably talented and will be drafted in Rounds 2-4 by a team that doesn’t care about character. Personally, I wouldn’t even take a chance on this guy in Round 7.
