NFL scouts and scouting directors have already hit the road, traveling to college campuses to watch players during those programs’ preseason practices. WalterFootball.com spoke with a few team sources who did a lot of tape study on prospects over the summer, and they shared they felt there were a few positions that could be rich in talent for the 2024 NFL Draft. Previously, we wrote here in the Hot Press about how safety was one of those positions, and team sources stated they think cornerback could have quality depth next April in the 2024 NFL Draft as well.
“There is a good amount of guys,” said an AFC director of player personnel. “There is not elite top-shelf talent though at this point. Hopefully, some guys emerge, but right now, I don’t see any guys that are like Saucy [Gardner], [Derek] Stingley, [Denzel] Ward, or Jaycee [Horn]. But I do think this class has a good amount guys who could end up being late first-round and second-round prospects.”
Entering the 2023 season, Penn State cornerback Kalen King could be the favorite to end up as the first cornerback taken in the 2024 NFL Draft, but there are a number of other corners with the potential to rise, including Alabama’s Terrion Arnold, Georgia’s Kamari Lassiter, South Carolina’s Marcellas Dial, and Wake Forest’s Caelen Carson – among others. While the 2024 NFL Draft’s corner class may lack top-shelf talent, it appears to have the makings of a deep class with quality candidates for the back half of the first round and depth into Day 2.
