By Charlie Campbell – @draftcampbell
In recent weeks, there have been a lot of questions about which players to avoid in the 2026 NFL Draft class. Every draft has some players who are selected highly, only to become massive disappointments in the NFL. Here, we break down some potential busts in the 2026 NFL Draft.
Mike Washington Jr., RB, Arkansas
Washington ran well at the Senior Bowl and had a great workout at the NFL Scouting Combine. However, his play speed did not match the 40 time at the combine, and the tape from his final season at Arkansas did not look like the downhill physical force at the Senior Bowl. On tape, the power and speed were not overly special. Hence, of the few early-round running back prospects this year, Washington could have the most bust potential.
Ja’Kobi Lane, WR, USC
This year was very tough to select a receiver with bust potential. Of the early-round candidates, Lane stood out to me as a receiver who might disappoint. I could see him being limited as a pro because of struggles to separate from NFL defensive backs.
Keylan Rutledge, G, Georgia Tech
Rutledge could easily go in the second round based on what I have heard from team sources and media reports. However, some teams have Rutledge graded much lower because of concerns about his ability to protect the quarterback and handle speed rushers. Rutledge is a strong and physical run blocker, but he could be overdrafted and forced onto the field too soon as an early-round pick.
Drew Shelton, OT/G, Penn State
This was a difficult decision because no prospect strikes me as having real bust potential. Shelton has a good skill set, but is inconsistent in pass protection, and that was proven last year against Ohio State. Shelton has the talent of an early-rounder, but if he doesn’t develop and get more consistent, he could end up being a bust.
