Teams See Savion Williams as a Cordarrelle Patterson Type

Rolled Newspaper bearing title: "NFL HOT PRESS"

The 2025 NFL Draft does not look to be a draft that is packed full of elite receiver prospects, but one that is very intriguing to NFL teams is TCU’s Savion Williams. During the fall, an NFC general manager told me that Williams jumped out to them as being a player with a special skill set in terms of height, weight, and speed. In speaking with team sources, they think Williams is a unique player who could be a versatile contributor at the pro level.

“I really like Savion,” texted an AFC director of player personnel. “I think he might be best as a running back with wide receiver flex like Cordarrelle Patterson. He lacks instincts as a receiver. He’s best as a run after the catch guy. At running back, he looks instinctive. Watch how hard he runs, so he either is a Patterson like running back or a Laviska Shenault type WR/RB.”

In 2024, Williams caught 60 passes for 1,655 yards with six touchdowns. On the ground, he averaged 6.3 yards per carry for 322 yards with six touchdowns. The 6-foot-5, 225-pounder has mismatch size and is fast. However, sources say he lacks some suddenness and hands as a receiver. Thus, it will be important for Williams to ease some of those concerns later this month at the Senior Bowl. Patterson was a late first-round pick back in 2013, and Shenault was the 42nd overall pick in the 2020 NFL Draft. In my latest 2025 NFL Mock Draft, I have Williams cracking the top 60. If Williams practices well in Mobile and works out well at the NFL Scouting Combine, Williams could get consideration to go earlier than that, just like Patterson and Shenault.
