2010 NFL Draft E-mails – Quarterbacks

  • From Eric M.:

It’s draft day and there are 4 QBs… which one would you choose?

    QB #1 4 years with a record of 21-20.
    QB #2 3 years with 4,121 yds, 25 TDs, 25 Ints.
QB #3 3 years with 10,829 yds pass, 80 TDs, 23 Ints, 65.5% pass, 354 yds rush with 7 TDs.
QB #4 4 years with 9,285 yds pass, 88 TDs, 16 Ints, 66.4% pass, 2,947 yds rush with 57 TDs.

    QB #1 is Terry Bradshaw
    QB #2 is Joe Montana
    QB #3 is Ben Roethlisberger
    QB #4 is Tim Tebow

The first three have 10 Super Bowl victories between them. They also have what Timmy has …. MOJO. They are all winners. You can’t put a number on that. Mechanics and numbers don’t mean a thing to a winner.

I have read the totally asinine comments from the Tebow haters. I am not a Florida fan either. In fact, I am so tired of hearing about the Gators from my family and friends that I hope they lose every game next year. But Tim is the real deal. They can doubt him if they want to, but it will only make him play harder. He’ll prove them all wrong just like he always does.

    –> Great e-mail.

There are certain guys you just don’t bet against, and Tim Tebow is one of them. Does he have a lot of issues with mechanics? Absolutely – but you know he’s going to kill himself until he proves to everyone that he belongs in the NFL. And once he does that, he’s going to kill himself until he wins multiple Super Bowls.

Draft gurus love to bash Tebow because he’s mechanically flawed – and they’re right. However, they’ve never coached before, and don’t know how to measure heart and will power. That’s exactly why guys like Bill Parcells, Jon Gruden and Tony Dungy have come out and said that they’d love to have Tebow. They know he’s going to be a winner in the NFL.

  • From Josh H.:

Just wanted to say I think the Rams are going to trade for Mike Vick, and take Ndamukong Suh with their No. 1 selection. So I would dump Clausen out of that first pick and maybe put him at Washington or Seattle. Just throwing my two cents out there, because I really think this is going to happen. I know its just a hunch but I think it should be considered when mocking.

Personally, I think Vick would get a very warm welcome in St. Louie… and generate alot of much needed buzz about the team. They will be able to get him for next to nothing and then they can use that first pick to grab the best player in the draft and fill other holes on that team.

–> If the Rams trade for Michael Vick, we’ll see just how dumb they are. The last time Vick started an NFL game was in 2006, when he led Atlanta to a 7-9 record with a 52.6 completion percentage. And let’s not forget the number of fans that trade will alienate. Though he would generate some buzz like you said, a lot of people would be turned off by this – and the Rams failed to sell out their final three games of the season.

Even in Philly, I know some Eagles fans who have completely stopped supporting the team because they signed QB Dog Killer. But the Eagles could get away with it because they have a huge fan base. The Rams don’t.

But yeah, if they’re stupid enough to trade for QB Dog Killer, the pick will be Ndamukong Suh.

  • From Todd K.:

Instead of the Rams taking Clausen could you see them signing someone like David Carr, a young vet, and then using the No. 1 pick for some other need or trading down to get multiple higher round picks?

Carr is talent, has experienced and you wouldn’t have to suffer the huge learning curve that a rookie suffers through. Maybe take a young QB later in the draft.

–> If the Rams pass on a franchise quarterback like Clausen (who has Philip Rivers/Kurt Warner upside) for a retread like David Carr, they’ll be destined to win 6 or less games for the next five years. Carr isn’t any good; he’s been hit way too many times and is basically the same quarterback that Marc Bulger is right now.

The Rams need to take Clausen. If they don’t, they’ll regret it.

  • From Joshua B.:

Wow dude, Colt McCoy in the 4th round? Jimy Clausen first overall? Tim Teebow 9th. This mock draft is absolutly horrific. Who in their right mind would not have Suh first overall, not have Colt in the 1st or 2nd round, have Clausen top 5 and and have teebow in the first let alone top 10.. Wow you should be embarressed. These are just a few things out of the countless wrong with this draft wow.

–> Last January, I had Matthew Stafford first overall (when everyone else had Curry or Jason Smith there), Mark Sanchez third to the Chiefs (before the idiotic Matt Cassel trade), Josh Freeman to the Buccaneers, and Graham Harrell nowhere to be found in my four rounds. I think I would have received a similar e-mail from you back then had you visited my site.

I only have Tim Tebow going to the Jaguars at No. 10 (not No. 9) because he can sell tickets and boost fan interest, which is their No. 1 need (check my mailbag for more). And Colt McCoy in the first round is laughable; he’s a poor man’s version of Kyle Orton, and if he were available to me in Round 7, I’d pass on him.

  • From Joshua B. (Reply):

Colt McCoy will become a franchise QB and and has more talent then Teebow or Clausen or Bradford!

–> McCoy has more talent than them in a game of Checkers, perhaps. Maybe even Chutes and Ladders. And possibly Sorry! But McCoy is a noodle-armed quarterback who never made more than one read in Texas’ goofy offense.
