2010 NBA Draft Mailbag

  • From S.B.

I was just thinking Cole Aldrich looks more like a Marcus Camby type player than a Chris Kaman. I feel like Kaman’s a way better offensive player than Aldrich. Aldrich has a real funky shot like Camby. Just wondering what you thought of that comparison.

—> (David Kay) I see similarities between the two. Both were great shot blockers and rebounders at the college level. Camby was more athletic and a bigger difference maker than Aldrich though. I admit I over-shot my Aldrich comparison with Chris Kaman. I think Joel Przybilla might be a more accurate comparison. Both are big, defensive-minded guys who are not that skilled on the offensive end. I personally don’t see Aldrich being anything more than a 7-point, 6-rebound, block shot a night type of guy which fits with the type of player Przybilla has been during his career.

I spread the word when I can, a good friend of mine who is a huge Heat fan is now avidly reading your pre-draft stuff in a small corner of North West England =) You think Bledsoe to the Pacers is a possibility then? I know it’s a weak point guard class but I don’t know if I can see it, which admittedly means it could easily happen lol!

—> (DK) Thanks Jon. The Pacers badly need a point guard. There is no doubt Bledsoe would be a reach at No. 10 but I think a few years down the line, he will be one of the top 10 players to come out of this draft. With that being said, Larry Bird tends to play it safe on draft night and might lean towards an athletic big man like Ed Davis, Ekpe Udoh or Patrick Patterson to fill that void on the roster. If I were making the pick, I’d strongly consider Bledsoe.

  • From Ryan:

Selection No. 24: Jordan Crawford… He cancelled his workout with the Hawks for unknown reasons, so it is unlikely that the Hawks will pick him here. I do agree, however, that he is a good pick. My personal opinion was that he was promised to be picked beforehand.

—> (DK) I really like Crawford as well, Ryan. The dude knows how to flat out score and would be a great bench player right away. I could see him going as high at 17 to Chicago who needs a shooting guard, possibly even No. 15 to Milwaukee. If he fell to Atlanta at 24, they would be dumb to pass on him since Joe Johnson is all but gone in a couple of weeks. At this point, players are canceling workouts left and right so you can never look too much into that because you never know how the chips fall on draft night.
