2011 NFL Draft Scouting Report: Adrian Clayborn

Strengths:

Potential end in 3-4 or 4-3

Aggressive and plays with mean streak

Knows how to use his hands

Gets to the backfield

Good speed

Effective against run and pass

Experienced

Weaknesses:

Lacking explosive first step

Might have already peaked

Multiple off-field incidents

Questionable endurance

Not much of a pass rusher

Summary: Adrian Clayborn lost some money not coming out after last season, but earned his degree. His impact was lessened and his production plummeted as teams focused on him. Medical will need to be confident the Erb’s Palsy he was born with is not going to be a future hindrance. All things considered his ability to do damage behind the line of scrimmage will probably make him worth the risk early in the 2011 NFL Draft.

Player Comparison: Tyson Jackson. Both Jackson and Clayborn are well-rounded although neither will threaten sack records. Jackson saw his stock skyrocket with his ability to play end in a 3-4, but unfortunately for Clayborn, the 2011 NFL Draft has a lot of talent on the defensive line.
