2013 NBA Draft Scouting Report: Lucas Nogueira


Position: Center

Size: 7-0, 220

School: Brazil, 1992


Strengths:

Size

Length

Shot blocking

Alters shots at the rim

Terrific help side defender

Offensive rebounder

Athleticism

Runs the floor well

Finishing at the rim in pick-and-roll situations

Potential

Weaknesses:

Limited offensively to around the hoop

Ball handling

Passing ability/toughness

Strength/physicality

Assertive on the defensive glass

Summary: Nogueira has been on NBA scout’s radars for the past few years and decided to stay in the 2013 NBA Draft. He is still very much a work in progress, especially on the offensive end, but because of his combination of size, length, and athleticism, he has the tools to be at the very least a rim protecting big man in the NBA. Nogueira’s stock has been rising as of late, and he could end up being selected in the late lottery even though he will likely stay overseas for at least another year.

Player Comparison: Larry Sanders. Sanders emerged as one of the better shot blockers in the NBA this past season and that’s probably where Nogueira’s ceiling is. He has a long way to go with offensive game, which is still an area of weakness for Sanders.
