2013 NBA Draft Scouting Report: Archie Goodwin


Position: Shooting Guard

Size: 6-4, 200

School: Kentucky, Freshman


Strengths:

Athleticism

Breaking defenders down off the bounce

Attacking the basket

Quick first step

Fearless in the lane

Finishing through contact

Dangerous in transition

Can play either guard position

Capable outside shooter

Length

Active defender

Rebounds well for his position

Weaknesses:

Too oftern reckless when driving

Developing a consistent pull-up jumper

Decision-making

Relies on the drive, needs to become a more confident outside shooter

Playing off the ball

Summary: Goodwin is an incredible athlete who is nearly unstoppable off the bounce and constantly in attack mode. He is better suited with his ball in his hands then playing off the ball, but because of his ability to get to the tin. Goodwin all the makings of being a major scorer at the next level, which is why he projects as a mid-lottery type prospect.

Player Comparison: Monta Ellis. Like Ellis, Goodwin can be a dynamic scorer who relys on his quickness and athleticism to attack the basket more so than as an outside shooter. Ellis is capable of running, and so is Goodwin, but both guys are geared to score the basketball.
